I have searched all over and I cannot find a concise answer. Is there a simple HOWTO for enabling sshd on a WRT54GS v7? I am using dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.

I am reading things about CFE, going here and there to get this and that file.

Would like to find a doc with all the steps on the same page if possible.

Thanks for your patience.

Not supported in the regular micro version of DD-WRT

Yup. Can't do ssh with micro. You would need micro plus and I don't think there is a compressor created for that router. You need a 128kb CFE. So...SOL.

I have an older WRT54G at home so I will look up its model when I get home. Is there a way to configure iptables on this unit then? I want to use it as a firewall as well.

Do you want ssh or iptables? I know squat about iptables, but I thought all dd-wrt could do them.

My ultimate goal is iptables but I had read you need SSH to be able to set this up.

You should be able to do this by telnet, but, like I said, I know squat about IPtables. Wait for Phuzion or soulstace or someone else who gets that stuff.

absolutely 8)

there's also a place in the UI to enter iptables commands (as a firewall script).

I saw "Firewall Builder" but that appears to be an external app that builds some iptables rules for you. Is there something along the lines of SmoothWall or IPCop that is a GUI add-on for DD-WRT? Otherwise I can build the iptables rules myself. I know how to do that.

Thanks!

Well I will do it the old fashioned way. I will write my iptables rules and insert them into the UI.

Thanks, soulstace!
