hope this helps.

What is the difference between this, and using...

Quote:
/nic/update?hostname=

Is one better than the other? I have everything else figured out.

Thanks! Very Happy
Those extra things are just parameters used by most dynamic dns services. wildcard=ON enables the wildcard option. The ones with MX are all set to NOCHG which means no changes are made to them.
Let me paste some information directly from dyndns.com

Wildcard:
Allows any fourth-level (and deeper) hostnames to be resolved. If wildcard is disabled, names like www.yourname.example.org will not work.

Mail Routing Parameters:
If you would like to set MX (Mail eXchanger) records for your hostname, check "Yes, let me configure Email routing" box. When this is checked, we will publish MX records for your hostname.

Then enter "MX Hostname" where you must use a host (A) record of the server that will process mail for yourhostname.example.org.

When the server you specify is only a backup MX (MX with less priority), change selection to the "Backup" option. We will create a primary MX record assigned to your current hostname and secondary record entered in "MX Hostname". For more information, see Email, Mail Exchangers, and DNS article.

Interesting.

I changed mine, and wrote it all down for future reference.

Thanks, you've both been a HUGE help.

Okay, so to bump this thread, I've run into another problem.

Up till now, DNSOMATIC would automatically update my IPs using the commands I was given in this thread.

Since June 6, according to my history, it hasn't updated. I have had to manually refresh through OpenDNS a couple times now to update the IP addresses.

What could possibly have changed? I'm using the WRT54G2 v1 firmware, and I would update, but I can't find a newer version.

Could something else be creating this problem. I set up a router for a customer yesterday, and under the DDNS tab, I'm only getting 'connecting to server.'

Help?

I should mention that I only have sp1 flashed.

Should I be using sp2? Where do I find it?

You should read the "Peacock" thread for answers to that question. That thread tells all. Smile

Alright, I upgraded the firmware to release 11296, and I still get the same problem.

My settings are exactly the same...but for some reason it refuses to update.

Just says 'connecting to server.'

Could something in my firewall settings be blocking DNSOMATIC from updating?

Well, I found the solution.

http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1314012&seqNum=2

I disabled the DDNS options, and used the script.

DNSOMATIC updated instantly on their website.

Strange that it wouldn't work the other way.

I'm still using a SP1 release on one router, and I notice it doesn't update there.

The router with the SP2 release DOES update, almost instantly.

Would upgrading solve it?

I'm asking because the SP1 release is a router I sold to a customer 2 days ago. I'm just wondering if I should switch routers, and reflash the SP1 with SP2.

Just updating this in case someone has the same problem down the road.

I used the script as I said above, instead of the 'custom' feature under DDNS settings.

It didn't work with SP1 versions of DDWRT, but it DOES work with SP2, or the 11296 NEWD version. I believe that is what it is called.

As an update to this, I have switched over to the dns-O-matic service and it works quite well.

Any idea why I would be getting this error?

Your post says all. This part "INADYN: Error validating DYNDNS svr answer. Check usr, pass, hostname!" is what you should look at. It means you either have a bad user name, bad password, or a bad host name.
