Everyone, or most everyone knows I fix router for fun, not for money. It kills time and it allows me to sharpen up my skills with new equipment.

Most, also know that if a pin short was attempted, I am not interested in wasting my time.

Attached is a pic of a perfectly good router that was ruined by a pin short attempt.

Jtag could have fixed this device. Now it is junk.

Summery: DO NOT PIN SHORT.

I realize that the prior technician working on this unit could have used a more "delicate touch". Irregardless, pin shorting junked this device.

If you look closely, you can also see that the traces on the pcb have been scratched and damaged.

Everyone knows you have to use a steak knife. Serrated edged. Otherwise, it won't do irreversible damage quite the right way.

BW's point is, of course, that jtag works an pin shorting is a hack. Of course, I never did PM that guy that says "PM for pin shorting instructions" or something.....maybe we're all just doing it wrong. Razz

What data sheet you looking at? 5th pin over from pin 10 (which is the white mark on the pcb) is pin 15. Pin 15 is ry/by#.

The say to short pin 15 an 16 (or maybe it is 16 & 17, donno, never did it). So how can you short pin 15 if it is vcc?

Doesn't matter... This thread was about not shorting pins and why, not to debate about what pin is what.

Very well... Carry on....

Test it
Want video???
lol

it looks like a Verry Unhappy wrt300n v1.0

Unless thay HELD the knife on the pins for along time you shuld be able to bring it back to life
it might have done a TOTAL whipe of the flash chip.
that would depend on what pins thay stayed on .

have you tryed to jtag it at all?

if it dont just replace the Flash rom chip thats cheeper than a new N router.

oh BTW
I don't profess to be perfect

The pictures are bad .. Its hard to test the pins on the flash ic and run a camera.
