I got a wnr834b v2 a few months (newegg sale) and successfully got dd-wrt.v24-12169_NEWD_openvpn_jffs_small.bin working. (using the guide on the previous page)

Now I want to upgrade to something newer. Which build can i use. I have read a lot of posts but .... i want to make sure. I use to have a Linksys ... was much simpler back than. Could you provide the link? Also what does NEWD mean?

Thanks.

Current recommended build is located here.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down.php?path=downloads%2Fothers%2Feko%2FBrainSlayer-V24-preSP2%2F07-21-09-r12533%2Fbroadcom/

Standard_generic is what I am running on my unit. (I'm now testing the latest build...but this 12533 is pretty good)

hard reset, flash fw with gui...wait 5 minutes, power cycle the router, hard reset again...then configure.

Hi!
I did some testing with TX Power on my 834bv2 Eko 12548 nokaid.
I used Wifi Hopper to monitor power and graph.
No difference between 0mw and 120mw..
Is this function works? Rolling Eyes 12548 issue?

I noticed signal have a fluctation +10 -10dbm while my stock Netgear 834gt have much more stable signal +- 2dmb.

This function never worked for me.
Also other reported that it will not function with most "N" routers.
Don`t know when the devs will fix it.
But you will have better signal with 28mw-50mw.

Also see this thread about it:

Hi !
New test 834bv2 BS STD 12533... Inssider.
TX Power influece signal stability..Tx Ant and RX ant seems to influence signal strengh. Shocked
Setting Rx Antenna from Auto to LEFT and Tx Antenna from Auto to RIGHT.. INCREASE my Rssi from about -37 to -24dbm Very Happy .Stronger signal. Fantastic.
Signal stability was bad...every 2 minutes there was a -15 dbm loss in Inssider graph..but magically setting TX Power to 35Mw signal graph has become perfect, more stable than my 834gt.

RX ANT = Left
TX ANT = Right
TX POW = 35mw

Hey,
i`ve tested your settings and my wireless is reacting like a cannon Wink
So i think there is something wrong with antenna diversity and this router ?
With your settings i have -31dbm - -33dbm all the time. When setting it to "auto" it sometimes drops to -41dbm and staying there.

I dont know why...this router is crazy Rolling Eyes ,
but with this setting wireless works better.
Internal antennas should be equal but Right Tx power is more equal then the Left one Very Happy

Hey all,

I have
Router Model Netgear WNR834B v2
Firmware Version
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (01/01/09) vpn-jffs_small - build 11296M NEWD Eko

on my router and I guess it is time to replace it with a never stable one. I checked but there are tons of builds and it is very confusing. I also read that some had problems with some fw's. So could you just post a direct link of one of the latest stable fw for this router so I can upgrade mine.
PS: I use vpn

Thank you

Maybe this have something to do with the "under rated" ac adapters? Someone with a 3A power box could test to see if signal keeps better with 35mw instead of 70mw?
I do not test myself because mine hasn't arrived yet and probably my WPN824v1 does not run the dd-wrt firmware.

Btw, my wpn824 is a refurb one and came with the 'defective' power supply, sometimes it just don't stop restarting by itself, that's why I ordered a new router, will test it with a better ac adapter when I get one and see what happens.
