Solution information:

To flash dd-wrt on either a D-Link DIR-300 Revision B1 or a D-Link DIR-600 Revision B1, you need to flash it directly from the router's web admin page (yes, that is correct... from D-Links web interface admin) --update firmware option-- and flash first the file named:

dlink-revb-factory-webflash.bin

After that is done, the router will reboot to dd-wrt, so the next step is to flash the latest file:

dir600-revb-ddwrt-webflash.bin --> For DIR-600 Rev B

or

dir300-revb-ddwrt-webflash.bin --> for DIR-300 Rev B

Here are the links:

For DIR-300 Rev B

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/09-24-09-r12966/dlink-dir300-revb

For DIR-600 Rev B

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/09-24-09-r12966/dlink-dir600b

Beware that as of today this is valid information, but directories will change as a more development releases are posted or --even better-- a stable one is produced. So make sure to first check in downloads to see if there is a stable release:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v24 SP1/Consumer/Dlink

As of today there is no stable release for these routers.

For latest development release, check

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preS

then the latest date and your router model.

Disclaimer

Notice that these dd-wrt versions are not STABLE. Flash at your own risk.

WARNING: If your DIR-300 is Rev A1, do not follow this procedure, but rather the one described here:

http://www.shadowandy.net/2007/09/mini-flashing-guide-for-dir-300.htm

Original thread follows:
--------------------------------------------------

Hi folks!

I have just bought a DIR-600 Revision B1

I searched the database, and saw only two images, the "Webflash image" and the "Special image for initial flashing". Version 24 pre SP2 beta build 12966.

And no further instructions. I am lost here. I suppose that flashing the DIR-600 is the same process as the well documented one for the DIR-300.

But... is it?

I guess that I need download ap61.ram, ap61.rom and the "Special image for initial flashing" and do the same process as the DIR-300? Same addresses and stuff...

After that do I need to upgrade to the webflash image?

Is this correct or the DIR-600 needs special instructions?

I do not want to brick the router of course.

Thanks!

Yes I have read the forum. Actually I bought two routers. A DIR-300 for my daughter and a DIR-600 for myself.

Last night I was able to install dd-wrt on the DIR-300 without problems. But there was clear documentation.

I have searched carefully the forum for DIR-600 instructions, but cannot to find any.

Looks like DIR-600 Rev B1 is pretty much the same as DIR-300 Rev B and that it is flashed directly from D-Links web interface. The file is supposed to be "dlink-revb-factory-webflash.bin".

Is this correct? Please confirm. I want to be extra careful here.

Thanks a lot and

Well the firmware that says for "initial flashing" would lead me to believe it should be flashed initially or FIRST. Then the other for ability to flash to other firmware versions.

Right. But again, I always try to be extra careful when I am about to flash anything. I try to read all the documentation several times and ask questions if unsure.

By the way, by searching "DIR-600" in this forum I could not find anything on how to flash that router.

By chance I found what seems to be the answer on a DIR-300B thread though Sad

Also it would be nice if on the DIR-300B page were instructions on how to flash it. Because many can get confused with DIR-300A's instructions.

By the way, my DIR-300 Rev A1 is working beautifully with dd-wrt. Great work!

I found these:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=58029

Not much but something. I usually search with google. Type dd-wrt dir-600 and see what comes up. Often this works better than the forum search does.

Neither of those threads explain or give any hint on how to install the dd-wrt firmware.

Best I have got is:

(That is the DIR-300 B thread by the way)

Search the Wiki for the install section! I updated that.

Note that file names have changed.
