i dont know where else to turn to. So basically, i flashed my WRT54GS V7 to the v24-sp2. I dont know what to do from here. I cant get internet from my router even though its connected to my modem and pc. Sometimes, at the top right it'll say WAN IP: 0.0.0.0. And sometimes itll give me a 93.xxx.xxx.xxx number or sumthing like that. It says WAN IP and that number, but no internet through it. What could be the problem. I clicked Copy MAC Address to WAN or sumthing when i clicked on MAC Cloning.
*sigh* I just dont know what to do...can someone please help me out. Thanks alot.

How did you ever manage to flash your router, and why ? _________________ Party now. The end is upon us.
Honestly, i really do apologize, but since im already in this deep, i really need help. Thanks alot.
I'll be happy to help if I can. When you have the 93.xxx.xxx.xxx address for the router's WAN your internet should be working. The fact that it will not stay set on 93.xxx.xxx.xxx means you probably have a bad patch cable between the modem and the router. You need a stable IP address before you can proceed with any more touble shooting. _________________ Party now. The end is upon us.
im sorry, let me clarify, it doesnt go back and forth, only when i switch over to the direct pc to modem connection and back to modem-router-pc sometimes. but when i do see the numbers at the top right, im unable to have any internet access.

When switching the modem to two different devices you need to unplug the modem from power for 5 minutes so it will bind to the new device. MAC address cloning will eliminate that requirement. Can you verify that your WAN MAC address is the same as the LAN MAC of your computer ?
After you are connected to the router and have the 93.xxx.xxx.xxx address showing for the WAN, run this command from a command prompt on the computer and see if it completes.
tracert 4.2.2.2 -t _________________ Party now. The end is upon us.
The peacock announcement at the top of the forum has basic info on what to do when you can't get a wan address. Rather than me trying to type all that out and likely getting it wrong, you should just read it. See the link in my sig if you can't find it...
It is likely due to your mac address, but read the info in that post. _________________ Don't worry if I make sense..be thankful I'm paying attention to your issue!

alright guys jst switched back from my modem to router back to modem to give u guys some info.
First off,i have read the peacock thread, so much so it gave me a headache ><
My WAN and LAN addresses are different, i typed in tracert 4.2.2.2 -t and it jst gave me options like -d -h etc.
Ill give u some more info. I did tinker with the main setup page and changed gateway and local dns because they were both 0.0.0.0. I changed them to whatever my ISP was, or basically whatever i typed in ipconfig from this modem to pc connection, onto the router. 2nd, MAC Address cloning in Clone WAN MAC is same as "get current pc mac address" However, the other option is a different MAC address.
Also, please forgive me as this might be my last post for the night. So excuse me if i take a while b4 next post.
Read the wiki article on openDNS and set that up in your router configuration. _________________ Don't worry if I make sense..be thankful I'm paying attention to your issue!

i dont quite understand what you are asking of me. I get internet through the modem-pc connection, so how do i access openDNS if i cant get through my router. Anyways, im doing through modem-pc, and...
"Setup an account with OpenDns and Enable dynamic IP update under the settings tab on the OpenDNS website. Also enable any filtering options you want." throws me off.
I dont have that option in openDNS, the only thing that appears is my IP address.
Go back and re-read the peacock announcement. You likely have to bridge your modem. Don't worry about setting up the settings in openDNS, just use those addresses in your router for Static DNS, to get you going. _________________ Don't worry if I make sense..be thankful I'm paying attention to your issue!

>< Im sorry Murrkf if im causing too much trouble. I dont know what to be looking for in the peacock thread. Again, i unplugged modem then router, then replugged modem then router and nothing.
Should i start over and 30/30/30 reset the router?
Picture 2 says connection timed out because i took the screenshot when i unplugged the ethernet cable. Picture 4 are the settings i changed...
What's funny is that in the pic, my router pics up my ISP but i jst cant get internet through my router. If you need any more pics, jst tell me. I dont know what to do, and its very confusing for me >< sorry.
P-S. If all else fails, is it possible to switch back to the old firmware?
Please do not link pictures to other sites as nobody will look at them, including me. Upload the pictures HERE using the add attachment option on your reply page. _________________ Asus WL520gU
Try this... 1st, I don't download pictures, or zips, or anything else so your pics don't help much.
anyway.. back to task at hand.
I assume you have a cable modem, not dsl or you would be asking about pppoe help.
power down your modem
reset your router back to defaults, power down the router
power down your pc
go have a beer.. leave the modem powered down for 20 minutes or so.. If you finish your beer in 10 minutes, have another.
power up your cable modem. Wait till it boots and the lights are flashing with activity.
power up your router.. If you left the router at defaults, the cisco light will light when you have a wan connection. Default wan connection type is auto-dhcp
power up your rig. load your browser.. say hello to your home page.
If that doesn't work, is the lan mac reported in the status page of your router the same as the mac on the sticker? _________________ PM for Pin Short Instructions
