I cannot get my WHR-G300N to recognize my modem and get a DHCP address from it. I tried a few different firmware revisions but none seem to work. I know its not a modem problem. I have tried other routers and my computer with no problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Who is your modem provider?

Have you power-cycled your modem?

Unplug the power to the modem & your router for 5 minutes.

Check to see if your modem has a battery backup - some newer ones do.

Power Modem on first, then Router after a couple minutes.

See if it gets an IP address.

Check the main Sys-Info page WAN sub-tab to see if it got a DHCP address from your provider.

I am getting the same issue.

My provider is Charter Communications, I have attempted to reboot the modem, reboot the router, connected, disconnect WAN. Took about 15 minutes to get a new lease and then it disappeared about 10 minutes later.

Even tried to set it static and it would not hold the IP.

Using WHR-G300N with v24 preSP2.

Thanks!

Have you tried cloning your computers mac address, some providers won't work without doing it.

Call your provider and have them clear out the old MAC's

They can do that, they just might whine about it.

Sometimes they can also send a 'reset' signal down the pipe.

You're paying them $$ - Make them work!

I see if cloning helps, and then either way I will call them and post the results.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you've run into a common bug with these routers. All the released version of DD-WRT wrongly set the WAN port address to the exact same MAC address. So basically Charter is rejecting your MAC address as duplicated. You can either clone your PC, your old router, or better yet manually type in the router number from the bottom of the buffalo (its listed as the default SSID)

My MAC's are set correctly with, matching the ones on the outside of the devices.

However, when I got home, I was up and running with no issues. Might just take a bit for my ISP to sort things out.

Nice - glad to hear you got it working.

Can you edit your first post, the title/subject and add a *Solved*

That way no one resurrects this thread and they can also check it for info
if they happen to have the same kind of issue later.

Yes, more than likely Charter renewed the lease on the modem
and that in turn, renewed and got you a new IP address for the new MAC.
