I apologize in advance for my pretentious thread title but I really need help.

Cannot telnet, or SSH.
Resetting my router is my last resort
I need to recover the username and password not change them in the backup as they are my passwords for other things as well.

Short Story: I have DD-WRT 24 SP2 firmware. I forgot my username, and password but I have a backup of my DD-WRT. However the username and password are encrypted in the backup or so I think. Please help me recover them(not change them).

Long Story: Basically a long time ago I set a really complicated DD-WRT(24 sp2) username and password. I have not logged in for a while, and now that I need to fix my QOS settings I forgot both my username and password. I have a back-up of those same settings and I need to recover the username and password but I think they are encrypted.

I both attached and uploaded my backup.

What I recovered from My Backup:

http_Passwd:$1$4h2g0m36$W.49bHOMRrwTYpneLNsQ

Thanks and Sincerely,

I would reset to factory default, and then restore the backup after I've used a HEX editor to change both username and password.

Please read what I wrote.

Reread what he wrote Wink The way I understand it is that he lost the password that he uses for other stuff and is trying to get it back, using the router as a resource to do so - but AFAIK this is impossible. My only suggestion to him is that maybe he can recover the password using one of the other things he used it for instead of the router.

I sincerely appreciate your input but I know I can use a hex editor to change the password. However I want to recover the username and password instead of changing them both.

Can't be done....its encrypted....

however, here is what I would try.

hard reset the router to defaults....change password to what you want it to be.....make a backup.

HexEdit that backup...extract the encrypted password and insert it into the original backup that you want to recover.

Then recover that newly altered backup

See if the new password will work.

But as far as getting the original password....it can't be done.

I have decrypted SHA-1 passwords, but this is something else. Does anybody know what it is?

@abilityfun

Do you have a clue what login and password you have set? Since you said "really complicated username and password", you may need a supercomputer before you even try to decrypt it.

It is important to know what you used:

loweralpha | upperalpha | mixalpha | numeric | alpha-numeric | upperalpha-numeric | mixalpha-numeric

Thank you for the help guys, I appreciate it. I guess I will just reset and restore the changed password backup.

Sincerely,
