I'm going to try my best to explain my setup.

I have a Linksys WRT54G2 with Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/30/0Cool micro. I use it has a repeater bridge. It's main job is to connect my Xbox360 to the internet. I also like to use it to connect my laptop in the same room to increase signal strength/connection speed. The problem is, the connection speed is horrid. I'm getting about 4mbs up and down while connected to the bridge vs 17mbs while connected to the main router (Linksys WRT54GL I believe).

I followed this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ud-Hq3kgvk4&feature=channel

Now my thoughts are that the WRT54G2 router is just a hunk of crap. I used to use it at my main router but it simply sucked. I tried to drag and drop files from one computer to another, and the router would time out and reset itself. I'm sure it would be beneficial to wipe it clean and try again?

I'm about to throw the damn router in the trash, move the WRT54GL with the Xbox and buy another better main router to increase wireless speeds.

You might find some guidance in number 10 and number 3 of the peacock announcement.

I read it and maybe I'm dense, but I don't get it. The only conclusion I could draw from that is the router isn't able to transfer the information fast enough to act like a decent bridge?

I'll be honest with you...the G2 is a piece of crap.

OK...sorry...had to say it

What is your Tx power setting. We've found that lowering the Tx power on this model helps some with reliability. The internal antennas of this unit seem to generate a lot of noise when set to high and the transfer rates seem to be much lower then desired because of it.

Try something in the 35-50mW range.

Holy smokes, A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE. Download speed doubled and upload speed went up about 1Mb/s! I changed it from the default 70 to 40. I'm going to experiment a little more, but that should help quite a bit. Anything else I should look at?

Thank you VERY much.

I'm having similar slowness on my WRT54GL v24-sp2. I set TX Power to 40 and transfer rates on download is still REALLY low.

I get 12Mbps going direct to my main router, but through Repeater Bridge mode I only get 1.5Mbps download and 3.0Mbps upload. I am using a separate SSID for the repeater currently so I can A/B test the main router and the WRT54G repeater.

Does the repeater Virtual Interface have to be on the same channel as the main AP? I suspect the WRT54G can only RX/TX on a single channel at a time.

Of note is that if I hardwire connect to the repeater I get about 6Mbps down/6Mbps up.

...and yes I did read the peacock Wink

If you missed note 7 then you likely missed note 1 et cetera.
