Hello, I am trying to install DD-WRT on a NetGear WG602 v4.

So I download tftp and also got the firmware listed in the router database:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Netgear/WG602/v4/dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin/1959

The WG602 is attached directly to my computer via CAT5 and I am able to access it via the stock web interface (ip: 192.168.0.205).

I open up tftp use server: 192.168.0.205 and leave password blank, and then select the dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin file to upload.

When I click upgrade it fails, sometimes it shows erasing firmware, but still fails.

I tried changed the retry to 99 times, but still doesn't ever work, just fails, sometimes gets to erasing firmware, but then fails.

Right now the WG602 is still working in factory condition.

Ideas? Thanks.

hello...
here is my procedure to flash my WG602 v4 (192.168.1.254):

under windows :
CMD console 1 : ping -n 1000 192.168.1.254
TFTP launched and Firmware file open and setting password ....

I unplug and plug power my WG602v4, when ping response return i launch UPGRADE...
when finished, unplug and plug power and all ok....

Is it your first flash with dd-wrt firmware ?
Orginal Netgear firmware inside at this time ?

Yes first time with dd-wrt firmware. I suspect I need to be pinging it like you say. So I should ping it, unplug the power, then launch TFTP?

Thanks for the help. I followed your steps exactly, and still the same thing, TFTP tries, sometimes it gets to erasing firmware please wait, but then fails with: Unable to get response from server?

I leave TFTP password field blank right?

I even set the NetGear WG602 back to factory defaults, and followed your exact steps, and still the same thing.

I think the default tftp address on this unit is 192.168.0.227 and with no password.

Yeah, that is IP address (192.168.0.227) I am putting into TFTP. I am also leaving the password field blank.

Any other ideas? This is so strange, as other have gotten this to work, but I am getting: Unable to get response from server.

Thanks.

This is what I did and it worked for me.

stuff: laptop with XP (network port set to 192.168.0.23), WG602v4 reset to factory defaults. The two are connected to each other via a small network hub.

Open a command prompt and setup a command to ping the Access Point: ping -t 192.168.0.227 and press enter (the -t will keep pinging the host until you ctrl-c)

start up the tftp client and enter all the parameters. (I don't think I entered a password on my run that worked, but i don't remember for sure). Don't press upgrade yet.

unplug the power to the AP, and reconnect. in the ping window, you should see a bunch of "Request timed out" followed by a few replys with TTL=100, followed by a few more "Request timed out" followed by consistent replays with TTL something less than 100.

my understanding is that the first set of replys (with TTL=100) is the boot loader responding, the second set of replys is the Netgear firmware responding. You want to initiate the tftp session while the boot loader is running.

So unplug the AP again, and plug it in. as soon as you start seeing the TTL=100 responses, press the [upgrade] button on the tftp client. It might take a few tries to get the timing right.

Also, the reason for the hub: I had the laptop connected directly to the AP, but after powering on the AP, it took the laptop a few seconds to register that the ethernet port was active and i kept missing the first set of pings. the hub solved that problem.

Hope this helps

hello guyz , i'd like to ask you something...
Is wg602 v4 compatible with dd-wrt firmware?
If it is... is it working better than the factory firmware?
I have read somewhere that this thing is not reversable...you can't go back to the factory f/w... has anyone managed to find the factory f/w??? thanx Smile
