I am really struggling with this router on DD-WRT. I desperately want it to work well but it's just not.
I've tried the basic firmware version you get off the router database page, and then 14929 currently. My problem is that 1. I cannot connect to any network broadast by the AP. and 2. The 2.4GHz radio comes on and off randomly every few seconds, unless I disable the 5GHz radio. Which brings me to 3. The changes I make to the wireless settings page seem to only take sometimes and not others.
It honestly seems really unstable and I'm thinking I did something wrong, since I see so many other satisfied customers in this thread.
(FYI I am running all default settings except I changed the radio chains to 1 and 1.)

Try changing radio chains to 1+2
For the rest. I was unable to find some free time to create a tutorial on how i managed to get multiple wlans/networks to work without any problems. Will try this week.
What is the difference between Build 14929 and 14948?

I believe 14948 fixed one issue where you could not use a full 63 character WPA Key. I'm not sure what other changes/fixes were made between these 2 builds. _________________ Asus RT-N66U / DD-WRT v24-sp2 (Build 23598)
To recover do EXACTLY whats posted here, this includes odd symbols such as ">". After step ONE make sure to set a STATIC IP such as 192.168.1.10 and the DEFAULT GATEWAY to 192.168.1.1, this must be done. Also have a telnet client ready or use the windows telnet client (I did).
-I added a few words to this procedure so no one else gets stuck at it for hours like I did.
-If the last 2 characters of your router's MAC is something like CA like mine is, for step 7 you would put in XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:C9, 9 is BEFORE A.
7. type "echo -n XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX > mac1" without quotes (router mac minus 1) Where XX is the router's MAC, look at the sticker on the bottom
8. type "echo -n XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX > mac2" without quotes (NORMAL router mac)
9. type "cat part_01 mac1 part_02 mac2 part_03 > caldata" without quotes
10. type "ls -l caldata" without quotes (should read 65536 bytes)
11. type "mtd unlock caldata" without quotes
12. type "mtd -e caldata write caldata caldata" without quotes
13. type "reboot" without quotes
14. flash DD-WRT r14929 back onto it using emergency loader THEN DO TRIPLE 30 RESET. The 2.4 GHz radio (or whatever radio quit) led should start flashing. You can now upgrade to the latest build available. _________________ LATEST FIRMWARE(S)

In my case flashing the new firmware to the router killed both radios and the LAN communications. Had to use the CFE emergency flash loader to load the OpenWRT caldata recovery firmware and then proceed from there.

Sorry to hear about all the horror stories over the latest posted firmware. Good thing I didn't download and install, normally if I see it posted I assume it's good to install, lucky I checked this thread first.
Flashing the new firmware (15279)killed both radios and the WAN communications. I can load the recovery firmware and telnet to it, but cannot download the files. Any suggestions on how to get the caldata files to the temporary directory? I have downloaded the files and created the caldata file.

I take that as you still have LAN communication with the router and can get to the webgui.
Enable ssh in 2 places in the gui, ie sshd under Services tab and ssh under the Administration tab.
Now use WinSCP or similar program to transfer the files to the routers /tmp directory.
You can also place the files on a USB flash stick if USB mount is working and access them there directly. _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!

Thanks for the instructions!! In my case they did not work "as-is" but I figured a way around the issues and am back in the game.
The WGET kept giving me "bad address" errors and due to my network setup it was really hard to be connected to the internet while running those commands... (ISP ATT RG router connected to WNDR3700 via ethernet and the WNDR3700 to the DIR825 via WDS).
I downloaded the files, and used WinSCP to upload them to the tmp folder. Once uploaded I ran the commands using the execute function of WinSCP so I could copy and paste the instructions (careful!!!). Weird error boxes popped up but the message inside was actually positive so I kept going. The last bit that had me scratching my head was related to the emergency loader... not a tool as I initially thought but rather the page that loads when you hold reset pressed and plug in the power (keep it pressed until router responds to the recursive ping)... then load the older dd-wrt firmware. 15279 cost me 2 evenings (8hrs total? of work to rectify the issue) but I still love dd-wrt!!
