The license depends on the router you are going to use. For this thread specific model, it´s free.

I don`t think it`s worth messing up with that.

I haven`t heard of anyone overclocking this unit`s TX output so I don`t know what`s a safe level.

Plus, there isn`t much gain if you don`t use a more powerful antena then the stock one.

If you OC it, you may start to generate too many noise on the wifi channel and get a lower TX/RX rate and smaller coverage area.

That´s is really weird... In theory this should not be a problem, since they are in different networks, but at least on Linksys routers, their MAC are all different.

It can be a bug that in the interface only.

But if the unit is hanging all the time, this is not cool. How is the CPU utilization rate? Too high?

I'm new to this.

Bought a cheap (and chearfull) TL-WR741ND to play around. I managed to install the dd-wrt firmware, but after about 20 minutes the wireless radio started to work intermitently. This problem renders the device unusable I'm afraid, as the the wifi network desapears.

After a while it comes back, but only for about 10 seconds or so until it drops again.

Any ideas?

dacastella,

What build are you using?

Have you tried connecting to the router using a cable and checking what the status page tells you?\

Can you access the internet using the cable?

build 15778

I have found that the problem starts after using Status->Wireless->Wiviz Survey.

As long as I don't use it, everything's OK.

Thanks

1) I successfully flashed with factory-to-ddwrt.bin via Web UI.
2) I didn't find Openvpn I need.
3) I flashed with WEB UI dd-wrt.v24-15280_NEWD_openvpn_jffs_small.bin (http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn15280/dd-wrt.v24-15280_NEWD_openvpn_jffs_small.bin) and bricked my router. It doesn't reply to pings and doesn't send any information (I Wiresharked).

Which build should I use to have Openvpn?
Information on a site is in a mess. Installation instructions unclear but according to information for BROADCOM devices at peacock thread NEWD flash can be used on a wide range of devices.
What I did wrong?

TL-WR741ND ver 1.9. Bought today. Bricked today:)

Try turning up power with reset button pressed
wait 30sec. and then release the reset button. Then try to access 192.168.1.1 with web browser or via tftp. I don't know if it will work on that router but it works on d-link.
Thre was another method 30/30/30 or 30/60/30 sec
you should investigate forum. There is a chance for your router to work without flashing with jtag.

resolve problem

Specific configuration
Failsafe mode
WARNING: You may be unable to access even if you see fancy fast flashing of "SYS" LED due to a bug #6922

Unplug the router's power cord
Connect any router LAN port directly to your PC
Configure your PC with a static IP address: 192.168.1.2
Plug the power on to the router
Wait until the "SYS" LED starts flashing repeatedly
Press the "QSS" button (on the front of the router) – the "SYS" LED will now start flashing at a faster rate
Login to the router by using telnet to connect to the IP address 192.168.1.1 – there will be an immediate unauthenticated login to a root shell
Commands:
mount_root - will mount the normal root filesystem
firstboot - all settings will be reset
/rom/sbin/reboot - will reboot even without a mounted filesystem

IMO, I do not recommend dd-wrt for tplink wr series for simple domestic routing. It´s better to use factory one.
