Read my post from a few days ago regarding the 16M chip!
There are multiple sets of pads that are designed to accomodate various flash chips.
I think that if you place the chip one set of pads to the right, you'll have line 21.

Yes you are definitely correct - I did the same to a friends GL in the past and it worked flawlessly - with that method you bypass having to do any other unnecessary modifications.

Alrite guys;
Today the flash chip arrived in the post.

I soldered it to the board and hooked up the JTAG cable. All I have to say is that it WORKS!
I got the Jtag debrick utility to detect the 4MB flash and managed to load the CFE to it without any dramas. Im now flashing in the mini firmware to the router - lets see how it goes.

I'll post pictures in a day or so when I find my charger for my camera.

I soldered a single chip from a KVR400X64SC3A/256 to my wrt54gl and used
Code:
nvram set sdram_init=0x0113
nvram set sdram_ncdl=0x000

and got the full 64MB.

I am trying to do same thing but first I need to buy a KVR400X64SC3A/256, so I was looking to buy some memory and I found out this: http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR400X64SC3A_256.pdf ... it seems that this is a 256MB (32MB * 8 chips).

Can you tell me where I can find a 64MB one?

Where can I harvest a 16MB flash memory chip from? Computer motherboards? Which kind should I be looking for or do I have to order the chips?

I did something similar with a WRT54G V5 a few years ago. I salvaged a 4meg flash and a 16mb ram chip from a flaky dlink router. It worked fine. At one point I even flashed a WRT54GS linksys image with speed booster and ran that for awhile. Im now back on OpenWRT. It flashed a DDWRT image just fine as well.

found this on eb*y

http://cgi.ebay.com/28F640J3A-Intel-StrataFlash-Memory-Parallel-64M-Bit-/180484902970?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item2a05bd103a

but it says its 56 pin TSOP. not sure but are most flash chips on linksys 54g routers 48 pin? or could this be a match?

Hello,

can somebody tell me how fast the flash has to be?

Can I use 120ns or 150ns Flashes?

yes, waking up the dead.

Ok, I can confirm 32MB memory chips:
Hynix HYDU561622DT-5 / Infineon HY250256160CE-5 work just fine in my WRT54GL (no sw modifications needed)

and 8MB flash chip:
Spansion S29JL064H (TopB/BotB) works after routing original Pin13 to left side Pin9.

Warning: do not take for granted that flash chips work on other pads than the original chip. The nearby TSOP48/TSOP56 pads have different configurations so before doing anything you should compare the pinout of the replacement Flash chip with the pinout of the original Flash chip (if it's identical +A21 line, don't try other pads).

See photo below for my mods. Added USB mod with SMD resistors on USB socket (soldered to PCB) and SMD capacitors on LM7805 (nicely placed next to power socket)

8 chips on a single-rank DIMM (typical in low-density unregistered memory) indicates that each DRAM chip should be 8-bits wide. Doesn't sound like a match, the WRT54GL wiki page says the router uses 16-bit wide DDR.

Unfortunate tjtag doesn't have definition for this chip. I plan to solder this flash memory into my wrt54gl.

I create chip definition for this chip. Can someone correct me if it is ok? My be i'm wrong.

Please help me.
