My current router broke and I am seriously thinking about getting this router because it looks so cool. But I have to have Linux firmware...what are the chances that firmware will be ported to it sooner or later?
I ve had DVD rom/writers from ASUS that died after 2-3 months and when i RMA-ed them i ve end up with getting back used/repaired ones (but not the ones i ve send them).
Are the routers made in some 3-rd party factory?
I simply don t trust Asus quality by default seeing friends with motherboard dieing fast or arriving DOA and so on.
I had a motherboard from Asus where parts died out on it after a year. After 3 years the motherboard died completely. Ya, I agree about Asus quality is bad. But that router is so cool looking I'm willing to take a chance...of couse..if in the future sooner or later there would be dd-wrt firmware ported to it.

My ASUS wl-500g p v1 router is doing fine for more than 2 1/2 years now. But this is not the right thread to discuss quality issues of ASUS mainboards etc.

Using it at home now. So far the N56U looks great and works well. 2.4GHz range better on stock firmware than my DD-WRT Linksys 610N V1 (which I needed to up the power on to reach the 2nd floor from the router in the basement). Likewise, 5GHz 802.11n now works reliably on the 2nd floor as well - never seen this with the 610N.
As for the stock firmware, looks like it's running Linux 2.6.21 (see log info below). When a device runs Linux, isn't it supposed to release the source code as part of the GPL?

Hi,
also just bought it today but I fail to set it up. When I plug in the power cord 5G and poer led light up blink blink for a while and then all is off. Also none of ther LAN port LEDs light up. I have tried with all my devices incl. modem but I can't access it, nor via switch nor via direct connection to my MAC (which seems not well supported, utilities is only for windows). I also tried different cables like included one and cat5.
Anyone can give me a hint ?

EDIT: went to the shop and exchanged the device, I was able to set it up, still tryin to find my way in the jungles aif setup...
