I purchased a WRT54GS v6 with the intent of putting the micro DD-WRT on it to add QoS support. I was surprised to see that it was already capable of QoS with the Linksys firmware and it seems to be working well. It wasn't advertised anywhere that it had QoS capabilities.
If all I really needed was QoS, is there any other advantage to going with DD-WRT micro? Will I lose features over the Linksys firmware? I don't need to do anything fancy, I just want a fast, stable router.
DD-WRT has many features and configurations beyond those available with the factory Linksys firmware. Even at that, your v.6 is a low-level, castrated router.
If you want a stable, fast router, you need to get rid of the v.6 and get, in MY order of preference: an older WRT54GS (Speedbooster), version 1 thru 3; a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54; a WRT54GL; a Buffalo WHR-G54S, an older WRT54G, version 2 thru 4.
Your v.6, no matter what you do to it (short of replacing it), will never be a stable, fast router. Good luck!! _________________ Clear 4G Wimax.
