Does DD-WRT enable any features I can use to disable yahoo messanger on a specific pc on the network. What is the latest software for the WRT54GS with Speed Booster.
Yes, under Access Restrictions. At the top of the page, under "Edit List Of PC's" you can define the MAC address of the PC you want restricted. Further down the page you can set specific times if you like. Near the bottom, as seen in the attached screen shot, under "Blocked Services", you can use the dropdown windows and select the programs that you want to block.
The latest "stable" release is v.23 SP2 9/15. I run SP3, which is still in beta, and it works very well. There are several other beta releases to chose from as well. It's up to you!!
No way! How does it achieve this. Does it block the executable file or the IPs it accesses? Does it ever have to be edited if Yahoo changes any of the servers it accesses.
Also when I install this if I have read correctly. I install micro or mini first then regular?
Where is the mac adress located on a pc or is it the same as the IP on the network?
Hi!
It blocks the ports that yahoo is using.
The firmware depends on the version number of your GS.But at the WIKI you can find it.
Mac address can be find at Network connections---network card:format:00:17:40:3E:5D:17 _________________ WRT54G v2.2 SP1 WRT54GL v1.0 SP1

Actually, those are series of l7 protocols on board which will recognize portions of a packet specific to an application. There are actually many of these. It's pretty impressive because even using a different port the app is still blocked. See the list below:
I can confim that it works, stops yahoo dead in it's tracks. Just sits there and waits to connect. And only on the offending pc. This stuff is awesome.
