Thanks! That was fast. I compared my original CFE with this one. Besides the expected differences (mac, pin, serial and country settings) there are quite some more differences. The hardware identification was exactly the same though. I was in doubt wether to modify my existing CFE to apply the EU country settings or to modify the EU CFE to match my own PIN, Serial and MAC. I decided to go for the last option. Basically I followed the instuctions from here:
Change the PIN and the SERIAL in the CFE
Change the MAC in the CFE (Only one, the other three are derived. The one to change is reported as the LAN mac in DDWRT)
Upload the modified cfe.bin using winscp
Flash the CFE using telnet and the mtd command
Without rebooting, reflashed the same DDWRT with "clear nvram". Not sure if this is needed, but at least the nvram needs to be rebuild I think, so best to do it.
I crossed my fingers, as I do not have a JTAG cable, nor could I find how to do the JTAG on the E4200. It seems only Eko has a version of TJTAG that can do the E4200.
Worked like a charm. No brick. Oef.
After this I might reflash with the stock CISCO firmware to see if that one now reckongizes it is an EU version. Not sure yet, first going to give DDWRT some more testing time.
Some extra information, just in case somebody is googling for it.
The country specification that I could find was:
US CFE version: Q2/4Q2/4US
EU CFE version: EU/9EU/9EU

Hello. I am looking for a cfe.bin for WL-AP-2454(WLG-2011), board name is : GL2454AP-QA0-B10 VER:V1.0 , CPU : AR2313A-00
Flash : MX 29LV800BTC-90
Ram : IC42S16400-7T
Lan : Kendin KS8721B
Radio : AR2112A-00
is it possibile, to upgrade a eu -evice with the us bootloader to use higher channels as 36-48?
See above my post on how to go from us to eu on a e4200. This worked. Please note that in the eu you'd better use the eu version. The us version will not work in the eu with automatic settings. The automatic settings in the eu are supposed to also use the higher channels when needed.
