The E3200 and E2500 both has the same 5GHz radio, a new radio which resides on a USB bus instead of a PCI bus.
There is no driver available for it so both routers will have to wait for dd-wrt support.

It may even be that the driver for this radio wont have a STA mode, only AP, which means that it wont be possible to use it in wifi bridge mode.

How does one go about dumping the CFE if they have console access to the router? What are common commands used for this?

The E3200 is listed as supported. Any news on the E2500. I just bought one and then a friend mentioned dd-wrt to me. If it is possible and likely that the E2500 will be supported I will not take it back.

And you know this how?

I on the other hand, I am very confident the required drivers will be built or obtained and all the new routers using the USB buss for the radio(s) will be ported. There are and will be many new routers using this. It is not only the linksys 2500 & 3200.

I think I can clear this up:

I think Eko ported the E3200 hoping that the 5ghz driver from the latest SDK would fire up the 5ghz radio. The problem I see, is this router has the same problem as the E3200 the wifi chip for 5ghz is:

Wireless Radio = Broadcom BCM43236
WLAN DSP processor = ?
Antenna Connector Type = 2 Internal
Wireless Standard = IEEE 802.11a/n
WiFi Operating Frequency = 5GHz
802.11n = up to 300 + 300 Mbps
802.11a = 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, 48, 54Mbps

and as far as I know there is not a 2.6 kernel driver for this 5ghz radio. So porting this router would be really half done like the E3200, and I doubt that Eko wants to go down that rabbit hole again and have everyone complain that they got dd-wrt on it but the 5ghz don't work. I assume this router will be supported once we see the E3200 fully supported on 2.4 and 5.8ghz.... again this is just my 2 cents for what its worth.

Hi Fractal,

Noticed you closed this one off in trac as wont fix Confused

Fair enough about the 5GHz radio, however, I am assuming that, other than this USB radio grief, that the balance of the DD stuff works satisfactorily, or is it a complete No Go ??

Its just that Cisco have droppped the current E2000/3000 which work well. They are getting harder to get

I am also curious about the ETA to have the Cisco E-2500 supported. I bought one for my mother who I am genetically predisposed to provide tech support for. Unfortunately the cisco suplied code is buggy and drops the connection periodically. I have ddwrt running on my linksys wrt54g and is very stable, so I was hoping this would be supported since cisco bought linksys years ago.

I attempted to port the E2500 this weekend since the E4200 is getting phased out with the v2 which is not supported.. I am really close, however I think just need the right mobo cmd set... Eko is the man when it comes to this, and I have learned alot from his efforts. I am pretty close, maybe someone can look over the output and give some insight.

Seems a little harder than I thought,

So I am able to detect the switch, eth0, and eth1

However the wifi drivers are not detected, and one other part I noticed is after boot, it seems to nvram erase and reboot just before broadcom watchdog dies, not sure why that is...

Awesome effort.

The last BrainSlayer "christmas" release 18024 loads without 5GHz support on my E3200. Milkfish works again, but I need to put it through its paces for what I need, VLANs, OpenVPN, Milkfish, and routing of course.

The dump you posted looks meaningful, but I'm just not quite there with drivers and such to make too much sense.

Keep up the good work. They need beerpal. Something that allows you to send beer securely to anyone with an email addrress Wink

Let me know of anything you want me to test on the E3200. BTW I dont have a JTAG cable...yet...so please be kind
