I'm new to the forums and I've already read the forum policies.

- I bought a Dlink Dir-615 E3 Router.
- I downloaded the correspondent DD-WRT firmware for it DIR615E3_E4_FW510B09.bin
- When I do the firmware upload from the router as per the instruction here http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-615_rev_E3 it goes thru the process fine (it lasts 118 secs) but when the router restarts it just goes back to the original firmaware as if nothing happened.
- Any suggestions very much appreciated.

That is not a dd-wrt firmware, it is a stock firmware!

Hi,

I tried the other firmware (dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin) and I get this error

"The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted."

Do I need to edit it, if so, do you guys know how?

Wow,

I downloaded XVI32 free hex editor from www.chmaas.handshake.de and edited (dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin), at the very end as per the instructions here http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-615_rev_E3 I found the line with the hardware code AP99-AR7240-RT-091105-00 and just changed the last 0 to 1 to read AP99-AR7240-RT-091105-01

Uploaded the firmware from the router again and didn't get the error message this time.

It rebooted itself, updated the IP on the laptop and everything seems fine now.

Thank you guys.

Are there any hidden features that become available after flashing the dir-615 E3 with the DD-WRT firmware? I am particularly interested in SNMP monitoring for data usage statistics which can be done using a little software "networx".

I did the update of the DIR-615 E3 with the DD-WRT firmware and it gave so many hidden features including SNMP monitoring of the router. I can now track my internet usage statistics daily, weekly, monthly as I use it right from my desktop using "networx".

I connect my DIR-615 as the first router to my cable modem and bingo I can now check what my cable provider indicate my usage is.

These guys at DD-WRT deserve a donation!

The only thing I noticed is that the WiFi light on the DIR-615 remains off after updating with the DD-WRT firmware. WiFi connection does work anyway. Is there a specific setting to turn on WiFi light indicator?

thank you for your solution. I had to use flexHex editor to successfully edit and save the file.
I'm still not seeing the wireless light being on, though... not a biggie, the wi-fi works OK, just no green wireless light on the router.

I have a DIR-615 E3 as well with the same issue
The uploaded firmware file may not be correct. You may have uploaded a file that is not intended for this Gateway, or the uploaded file may be corrupted.

If the uploaded file is correct, it is possible that the gateway may be too busy to properly receive it right now. In this case, please try the upload again. It is also possible that you are logged in as a 'user' instead of an 'admin' - only administrators can upload new firmware.

The Gateway will not be reprogrammed.

i keep getting that error when i try and upload dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin, i tried changing the number at the end from 01 - 00 and back, i have flashed the router back to factory numerous time and still end up with the same error i have read the wiki on flashing the dir-615 and the peacock thread as well, any suggestions?

The dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin in every release since r17201 have (in my opinion) been too large to load. They are 6.5 MB instead of 3.34 MB as was the case in r17201

Try downloading dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin from r17201 and edit it as described above so it will load.

After r17201 is up and running DD-WRT then download the latest release of dir615e3-firmware.bin (r18007 at present) and do a firmware upgrade to that release.

I did this and it worked.

No matter what firmware even its the correct one, it still says..."Incorrect Hardware ID". I dont know what to do to the router, i'm at my whit's end with it Evil or Very Mad. might give it a proper send-off by splitting it in 2 and send to the garbage. i even hacked the .bin file and changed the last digit to 1, no dice. nice little router which still have spunk. Sad
