Removing the antenna switch is just to elimiate signal loss. Setting it to RIGHT/RIGHT should force it and I expect that will be the right thing. Client Bridge mode or WDS mode will probably cause problems as you discribe, it's not a signal thing. I expect it's a chipset problem, I just feel that other devices like Edimax and Pheenet seem to work better in Bridge mode.
