I never paid much attention to MTU Size, AUTO seems to do just fine. But recently I switched DSL modems from a Cisco 678 to an Actiontec GT701-WG

Not sure why but when I was on the Actiontec, sites with a lot of elements like yahoo would not finish rendering or would take a long long time and would render incomplete and sites with little elements like google would rener OK. But with the same DDWRT but with a Cisco Modem, it was fine at AUTO.

Here is my full writeup on my experience and testing.

Basically setting MTU to AUTO or 1500 rendered my Internet connection unusable.

Setting it to 1492 worked.

Someone on the net recommended setting it to 1454.

Cisco DSL Modem didn't care.
