No idea if anyone here would know .. but I am throwing it out.

My plan is to setup a hotspot for my store.

I bought a referb E1000 - ended up being a 2.1..

but I think the point here is the flash size. I am doing some reading it would seem I need a full size rom to run chillispot.. or some other embedded hotspot server software..

SO this is mini.. initial flash whatever.. I am mini with an E1000 correct?

James

EDIT - OK, so I flash with this.. which is listed as the offical for the E1000 v2.1

dd-wrt.v24-16968_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin

and then I flash with

dd-wrt.v24-17990_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_hotspot.bin

and I should be good.. is there anywhere I can see what is in mini_hotspot?

Thanks to all for a great effort on dd-wrt.

I have an E1000 v2.1 and I flashed to the official build from page 2 of this thread, then flashed to (dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin) based on barryware's recommendation that 17201 is a good build. No issue so far, but then again, I'm only using this as an access point.

brilliant! can set the "SES / AOSS / EZ-SETUP / WPS Button" to disable the wireless, and it works flawlessly.

edit: reason for using this E1000 just as an AP is that to buy a plain access point, it actually costs more. Even a TP-link plain Access Point is more expensive!

I installed 3 or 4 different builds on my V2.1 (Starting at 16094), and none of them will connect faster than 11Mbps. Everything else works on them, but they won't connect at a speed I can use. My WRT54G with DD-Wrt on it can connect (Both in client Bridge mode) to the same access point at 54Mbps, at roughly the same signal strength and noise. Is anyone else having this problem?

I had this same problem and found that reducing the default TX Power to somewhere around 45mW resulted in a 300Mbps connection. To high and it drops, to low and it drops.

Has anyone successfully VPN'd with the build mentioned in this thread? I've had issues connecting with pptp, but haven't tried openvpn. It's possible I'm just doing it wrong. Appreciate any feedback!

so i read this from front to back some questions.

1 does the wifi light on the router not function for anyone?

2. i flash the firmware on page 2. then what other do i flash after that. seems i seen a few different in the posts.

3. on the stock firmware it has 20mhz or auto 20/40. on this can we force it to take the 40mhz?

1. it seems to work here, though i can't remember testing on the firmware from page 2. I then subsequently flashed to a newer build (dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_e1000v2.bin) and it works there definitely. Even setting the WPS button to be the radio on/off switch works and the light turns on/off correspondingly.

2. i believe you need to stick to mini builds (so it fits in the limited flash on this model) that come AFTER the firmware on page 2, that use the kernel 2.6 and NEWD driver.. after that i'm not sure.. so i just stuck to using the build that had e1000v2 in it.. i forget what those are called. i got the above file from ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/06-14-11-r17201/broadcom_K26/

3. Yes. on the firmware i mentioned above, I see when it set to some variety of wireless-N, it allows you to select [Auto], [10Mhz], [20Mhz], [40Mhz].

Hope that helps.

just wanna report back. flashed the firmware on page 2. then 30/30/30 then upgraded to fftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/12-20-11-r18024/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-18024_NEWD-2_K2.6_voip_small.bin

as its the latest build.

i always ran voip version cause of my magic jack. works perfect. still some tx errors. but i have come to expect those. 91 over 24hrs isnt bad. nothing i try ever gets them gone so ill live with it. very marginal. otherwise works great.

Hey kaos420, where did you find that link? I flashed my router with the '16968 Mini' firmware on page 2 of this thread, and now I'd like to make sure I have the latest/greatest version. But I can't find the actual download link on the dd-wrt main site. All download links just go to the router database.

I think kaos420 browsed the ftp, specifically brainslayer's builds: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2011/

from the latest build there (12-20-11-r18024) simply navigating through to the broadcom 2.6 kernel folder (broadcom_K26) which is where newer routers are afaik, yields the file used.

The database part of the site doesn't even return a result for the e1000 v2.1, It only has 1.0 and 2.0 here. Where did you find the FTP link? I looked everywhere but I must have missed it.

i simply took the link that was posted in here and removed the file version from it. gaining entry to the ftp. here.

this is the update to page 2 one.

DMack, the key thing is to not flash a build that is older than the one from page 2. The website is kinda out of date so don't use the router database builds.

My understanding is v2 builds on the ftp (after 16968) encompass 2.x - so they cover 2.0 and 2.1.

e.g. on my system info page, it detects it as v2.1, despite the .bin just labelled 'e1000v2.bin).

Kaos, is the file above the correct dd-wrt file for the CISCO E1000v2.1?
I'm having trouble following the posts...
