Today I have soldered an serial header to the PCB and have discovered a strange problem!

The serial header is standard:

Pin 1 = Tx
Pin 2 = Rx
Pin 3 = GND
Pin 4 = 3.3v

Terminal standard settings as:

Baud = 115200
Data bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop bits = 1
Handshaking = None

Tested with (Hyper Terminal & RealTerm)

But all I see in the terminal is jibrisch:

Code:
###idàUsingþIn:øNet:: cethüethüethùATøethù##ðOK
þBootýLinuxþߟ{ó›[{óûû›ÿŸþþý›ýýÿÿ››ÿÿÿÿ{ÿÿûÿ{ÿÿ{ÿÿÿÿoþûÿÿÿÿÛÿ›ÿoþÿÿÿ¾›{ûÒðûóÛÿ›Ûÿ›Ûÿ›cmþÿÿÿÿóÿÿÿÿÿ{ÿÿÿÿÿûÿÿÿðü›ðø->ÏÎÛÿ›IPøÿTCüüüÿÛÿ›Ûÿ›¿ÿ¿ÿVFS:ÿÿÿ›ÿFrÿÿ›ÿ

OüCountþóbr0ÿÿÿþÛ¶ÿÿÿë

Somewhere you can see Boot Linux but nothing usable realy!

I have experimented with changing settings as Baud rate, Parity, Stop bits, Stop bits etc... etc... none of them give any good result.

In the end I have also tried Terminal v1.9b by Br@y that allows you to set custom Baud rates but also with no success.

Ps. there is nothing wrong with RS232-TTL converter I have four of them and they perform okay on any other device.

Any help on this is welcome!!!!

all the six resistors 3 for Rx 3 for Tx are in place at the PCB so thats not the problem.

I never have seen this before and I have do this on many routers and AP's this way.

I just dont get it.

I have discovered the problem, the RS232-TTL chip from maxim nedded 5v and I give it 3.3v that was available on the PCB, I even try to fed it with USB 5v but with no results.
Now I use the smd version of the max chip and do work fine from 3.3v to 5v.

Now I was able to see the Boot log:

I've just bought one of these

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/networking/wirelessnetworking/wirelessaccesspoints/tl-wa801nd.html

It's a V1.2

I'm really really new to this but is the 100mw power control now valid with the stock FW or the one thats been built here?

Also I can not find how you go about to install such update.

I plan to use this in my atttic with POE injection and using 2 custom bowtie omni directional aerials to get as much cover as possible!

I only paid £23.32 brand new.

Sorry for all my questions!

yes, i am the one testing dd-wrt on tl-wa801nd (thanks to LOM for the firmware)
i am using it as client for another access point
setting it as "client bridge(routed)" or "client" didn't add ath0 to br0. trying to add later ath0 to br0 also didn't seem to do any good.
so i had to use "wds station" mode.
no other problems found so far.

offtopic
what is br0:0 and why does it have a 169.254.x.x address?

Is this firmware available to download ?

there is a file in this thread called factory-to-ddwrt.rar
not official.
do it at your own risk.
after installing i've upgraded to v18024.
it works.

I just flashed all WA801ND APs one by one in my office with this firmware (file from this tread)

it works

the main advantage for me now is "keep alive" function, because all my APs were hanging at least one time every day on original firmware, even with the last version

thank you

Hi @all.
Can i use the Firmware from:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=85237
and flash it by the update page on the WA801N?

And can i downgrade the firmware to the original one?

Best regard Smile
