I updated my E3200 from 17201 to 18777, only took a few minutes and everything is working fine for now. My main grief with the Linksys code is that it could not keep the PPPoE connection up and Cisco was not interested in fixing the code. DD-WRT fixed that issue, but I had to give up the 5Gz band.

I also successfully updated my E3200 to 18777. Then I tried to downgrade to 14311 and I can get no web browser interface... but when I turn on the router it goes through the loop of booting and rebooting. I can ping the router with the ttl=100.. and I can tftp.
Either way, the tftp seems to be successful but the router doesn't reboot. I haven't tried different firmwares. Are there any that are specifically for command-line flashing that might get it off this cycle?

I can get no web browser interface... but when I turn on the router it goes through the loop of booting and rebooting. I can ping the router with the ttl=100.. and I can tftp. But I have tried tftp-ing the downloaded E3200 firmware from the Linksys site, and I tried tftp-ing the original 17201 mini.
Either way, the tftp seems to be successful but the router doesn't reboot. I've waited minutes, hours. I've cycled power. I've 30/30/30. I've repeated ad nauseum. What I haven't done is tried different firmwares in my tftp adventure. Are there any that are specifically for command-line flashing that might get me off this cycle?
you have not "almost bricked it".. you have bricked it.
17064 was the 1st build to support this router. You flashed 14311 and you didn't state if you used an nv60k build.. prolly not cuz they were not invented then.. Why did you do that? No support for the router with builds prior to 17064.
get yourself a serial ttl adapter or send it to someone to fix for you. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

In the Peakcock thread it says:

NG.
Not quite. You have to read it ALL:

Additional Note for E2000 E3000 and E4200 etc. users:
Do the initial flash with the trailed build that contains your router model number...(example...xxx_e2000.bin for a E2000 model) Once you have done the initial flash...you can upgrade firmware using the build that contains xxx_e2k_e3k.bin for all subsequent flashes. (If you are using a 16758 or higher build, which is newer than is recommended, you must use a nv60k build rather than the e2k-e3k build - See the wiki for your router and this post: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=148350)

i am on a wrt160n build 14929 but it seems like its giving in after years of use.
i have been reading reviews of the stock linksys firmware, and they don't look good at all.
if 18777 is stable, i guess i can give up 5ghz for now. its really annoying when u r trying to get a game going with frds and u drop out all of a sudden and cant connect for minutes after that.
also, it is to my understanding that after i flash the trail build, i can flash this safely?
dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k.bin
lastly, if i ever needed warranty n i want to restore to stock firmware, i can just flash it in web gui right?

One last question, USB support, is it available for the E3200 in the mega version? I'm a little confused about this USB thing. I know 5Ghz is not available yet, but what about USB?
I just bought the router two days ago and didn't flash it with dd-wrt yet.

I don't know exactly if 18777 is stable, however I am about to try flashing 18946 in a minute. I've seen other forum users running the 18946 builds on their e2000 and e4200 boxes... so I guess it can't be that bad.
Also, yes, you can flash that safely after flashing the trailed build, and then doing a 30/30/30 reset. That's what I'm currently running...
and well... I think you kinda voided your warranty as it is... however, I'm pretty sure you can restore the official Linksys FW, although I'm not sure how. The routers I've bought barely lasted 24 hours running the Linksys FW... I don't even think I used the stock FW ever because it would cause problems and constantly clog up.
This one WRT54G I have was running Tomato FW for a solid 6 months without ever needing a reboot. I was impressed by that, LoL.
Just wanted to update that I'm on 18777 currently, and USB is working, I mounted an ext2 8Gb usb flash stick and loading wrtbwmon bandwidth monitor script from it
