First information:
WRT54GL Running Standard DD-WRT 14929
Windows Server 2008 R2 running VPN Server

I would like to place the WRT54GL at a remote site and have a VPN connection from it to our main site running the server. I can't seem to get the inbuilt DD-WRT VPN Client to do anything, give errors or connect. Do I need the VPN Firmware and use the OpenVPN Client to connect? I have only connected to the VPN Server using Windows 7 inbuilt VPN client and that works fine from the remote site.
The idea is to enable us to manage a wireless access system at the remote site which needs software running locally. A VPN should allow us to run the software on the server at the main site and manage it from there.

Thanks a lot

Good luck with that. The PPTP client is pretty horrible, but if you get it working, do report back. You'll find some older threads about it by searching. Just a few:

You don't need the VPN firmware, since that just gives you OpenVPN server/client and doesn't enhance PPTP server/client at all. You don't need the OpenVPN client unless you use the OpenVPN server.

Perhaps something like Hamachi would be better?

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Looking through them threads a lot have got the client connected but then having problems. I can't even get it connected at the moment.

I understand I don't need the VPN firmware so that's fine. Just how do I get any errors out the client gives when I save and apply the settings. At the moment nothing happens.

Also Hamachi is no good as I don't have any computers at the remote site other that guest computers. This remote site just has a WAG200G, WRT54GL (Running the DD-WRT) and a UniFi access point. To manage the access point I need software installed on a computer which I'm hoping can be here at the main site.

Thanks

Ok, progress has been made with this. The remote site WRT54GL router is at a friends so we can test it. Managed to solve the connections issues by following this guide:
http://devjar.me/post/17928026967/fix-pptp-client-on-dd-wrt

The problem I now have is the remote site can access my main network, but I can't access the remote site. I can't even ping the address my VPN Server has assigned.
These are the details:

Main Site:
172.16.32.0
255.255.248.0
172.16.32.1 - WRT310N DD-WRT Router
172.16.32.7 - Windows Server 2008 R2 VPN

Remote Site:
172.16.40.0
255.255.248.0
172.16.40.1 - WRT54GL DD-WRT Router/VPN Client
172.16.32.22 - WRT54GL VPN Assigned IP Address

I can't ping the 172.16.32.22 but any computer on the remote network can get to my servers by IP. I want traffic both ways possible. I'm guessing some static routes need to be setup at both ends for this but I should be able to ping the .22 address already and I can't.

Thanks
