I read so many instructions and threads about this router and still could not find clear steps to install DD-WRT on this router (WRT310N V2) anywhere.

I'm doing it very fist time and do not want to brick my router. So, kindly provide me exact working steps for installing DD-WRT on this router.

Thanks in advance for the help.

DISCLAIMER: Please read all other precautionary steps first before jumping on it. I'm not responsible for any kind of failure. These steps worked for me. It is not necessary that they will work for you too. So, do it at your own risk.

firmware used:
F1. The "trailed" version for the initial flash: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/07-20-12-r19519/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-19519_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt310nv2.bin

F2. the desired generic release for the final flash: ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/07-20-12-r19519/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-19519_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_nokaid_small.bin

I followed these steps:

1. Hard-wire the router with your computer
2. make sure anti-virus software is off on your computer.
3. Make sure wireless connection is also off in your computer
4. Do a 30-30-30 Reset.
5. go to: http://192.168.1.1
6. USER ID /Password (Default) = (admin/admin)
7. Go To Administration tab.
8. Click -> Upgrade Firmware
9. Use F1(see above list of firmwares) firmware and upgrade
10. Once done, wait for 5 minutes before hitting "continue" button.
11. Do another 30-30-30 Reset.
12. power-off router for a min
13. Once power is ON go to http://192.168.1.1
14. Change User ID and Password
15. Go to Administration
16. Upgrade firmware
17. This time choose F2 (see above list of firmwares) and upgrade.
18. You are done.

Sorry to revive a dead post, but for the F2 firmware shouldn't it be this:

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2010/08-12-10-r14929/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin

I.e. non-trailed version? Currently F1 and F2 are pointing to the same image.

I need to flash my wrt310nv2 and want to make sure I've downloaded the correct firmware images.

Thanks

You are correct. Use a non trailed version for subsequent flashing.

Sorry I'm a bit confused now, why are you linking to the 160N v3 firmware for F1?

First, please read the 3 Broadcom Forum announcements and the wiki for your router/version:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT310N_v2.0
...to save a lot of potential headaches. Smile

Section 3 of the Peacock announcement shows the build locations; 14929 and newer builds at: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/

So the recommended 14929 trailed build is:
ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2010/08-12-10-r14929/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-14929_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt310nv2.bin
Or you could peruse the "New Builds" threads and changelogs to try a newer build.
