Hello,

I've bought the above mentioned router some days ago.

With the stock firmware everything works perfectly (after a MAC clone), but with ddwrt the wan port is not working.(it even doesn't show up in /tmp/var/log/messages)
I've installed the file "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" that is recommended in the router database(to be fair, for version 1.4 of the router;) )

I've tried it several times, with everything i could imagine. Then with a bit of googling it seems, that there is a problem with newer units of the device at all.
http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd
https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/11898

I know those links are from the openWrt project, but it is the same problem.

Is there a similar fix for ddwrt?

regards

Hello,

and thanks for the reply!

The workaround in the second link from my first post here worked like charm.
1) downgrade your stock firmware to an older version
2) install ddwrt
3) have fun

At first i've installed the latest beta of ddwrt: I get a wan-ip, but i was not able to connect to something (no ping, nothing).
Then I've installed again the version from the routerdatabase and now everything works fine.

This method worked for my tp-link 1043nd (1.8 stock firmware ). I downgraded factory firmware to 1.7 and then used the web interface to flash the firmware to dd-wrt.

This downgrade process which you are doing can cause mess and I can't recommend this to anyone.

The proper way to deal with it is such that a developer of DD-WRT investigates the way which the newer bootloader shuts the wan port down and makes a check in newer builds of dd-wrt about its state during boot.

Yeah, that method works in most cases but it has already been stated that it can cause a mess on devices that already got the 'new' bootloader. (TP-Link actually pulled all firmware images from their site that included the new one and replaced them with images with the 'old' bootloader. I couldn't find one, that is; checked the US, UK, RU and DE sites.)

A DD-WRT internal fix is probably the best way to solve this. OpenWRT already got a fix ready. *wink wink*

I also bought the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and it is a v1.8 with Serial Number starting with 12xxxxxxxxx.

Like everybody else I also have the WAN connection problem, also the WAN light doesn't come on when the router is fully booted, but it does light up during boot.

I tried the following firmware's which are all installed from the original firmware and where the WAN connection is not working:

TP-Link TL-WR1043ND
v1.8 SN#124xxxxxxxx

Build: r14896 (recommended by the DD-WRT router database)
Build: r18777 (recommended by some people on the forum)
Build: r19519 (the latest firmware which is not in testing)
Build: r20119 (the latstest firmware in testing)

Is there any news on this WAN connection problem?

I saw that this problem is known and that there is a SVN ticket:
http://svn.dd-wrt.com/ticket/2706

If a developer of DD-WRT needs some more information, please feel free to ask me and I will test anything you like to speed up resolving this problem!

r20453 works great for me, even lan and wan status leds do work.

However it indeed does work correctly only in IE Sad

Hi.

I have upgraded to dd-wrt using the german tp-link firmware. Than to the latest r20453 dd-wrt.

It works normally and I am currently torrenting at 3Mb/s and downloading an iso at 3.5 Mb/s. Load 0.4. Stable and working great. If something happens I will let you know.

Cheers!

Is this procedure still required? going to an old German stock firmware prior to update to the latest DD-WRT build?

or it is safe now to just upgrade to latest stock firmware from TP-Link website, then update to latest DD-WRT build?

I hope one can clear this.

thanks.
