I had an original gangster Linksys wrt for a while and have really been missing it recently. I've been getting by with one of the new Linksys ashtrays, which is comparable to a second router that I have, a Tenda W268R. I keep switching them out because I can't decide which one runs worse. Both do various things with various amounts of crap but have gotten me online so I've sucked it up and survived.
But I've gotten damn tired of it, and I want a dd-wrt back.
That being said, I don't have an extra $100 lying around, or to be realistic, I'd rather buy a router and a copy of Halo 4. The best I've noticed at the moment is the Asus RT-N10+, which are going for less than $30.
I'm personally only interested in the standard (4MB required) installation, but by all means feel free to wax philosophic on other 'cheapest-in-class' if you'd like.
And if you have noticed any really nice upcoming Black Friday deals, let me know!

There are refurb linksys E-series are around $30, the E900 is $17, one of the better deals i have seen is the E2500 refurb for $34. Look around on ebay for ciscolinksys's store if you want to find them, they got some good deals. _________________ Wireless N Config | Linking Routers | DD-WRT Wiki | DD-WRT Builds | Peacock - Broadcom FAQ
Also, consider buying a used one "like new" on ebay for maybe less than $25 - some people buy a router, then find out it does not fit their needs and resell it for half the price. I made some deals like that and never had any broken or malfunctioning part.
Like new manufacturer refurbs on Amazon I'd do but I'd be weary of like new used stuff on eBay as it might have instability issues or even though it's like new it might have ran hot for months or longer and have half worn out capacitors.
I suppose you could ask the seller how long it was in service if you trust the answer will be truthful.
this is good info that should be folded into the Best router thread.
personally, I am looking for good performing, stable, trouble free routers running DD-WRT and Optware that I can use for mass deployment. inexpensive would be key here. the difference between a 20$ router and a greater than 65$ router would be note worthy.
the key features would be dual radio N, USB ports, 8 mb flash, atleast 32 mb ram or more , somewhat decent processor, gig ports. As I have researched, there is none that has all those features yet. but the search continues. _________________ Please state what make and model router plus the build number and type of DD-WRT you are using.
