Hi every body,
I want to buy one of this routers D-link DIR-825 or TP-Link TL-WR1043ND but i don't know which on is more stable
I know 825 has faster CPU but signal stability is more important to me.
Could you share your experience with me and help me to decide which one to buy
I looked at both routers (among others), ended up getting 825 (rev b1). Running 20119 with no problems or stability issues.
825 has more memory (64) and clearly higher processor speed; this was important as I use it as Samba and DLNA server. Also, 5MHz band is likely become more important in the future, now I have only one client using it but doesn't hurt to be prepared. _________________ D-Link DIR-825 B1 - DD-WRT v3.0-r35681 std (04/06/18) modded with 2 USB ports

D-Link DIR-890L - DD-WRT v3.0-r44863 std (11/24/20)
I've actually had both routers. They both performed very well with DD-WRT firmware. They were both stable and fast with good throughput. I would have liked to have kept the TP-Link because it has lower power demands, however, I bricked it with a bad firmware upgrade, and it was unrecoverable. My feeling is that that the DIR-825 is the better router, it has dual band support, a faster processor, and more ram, however, the TP-Link is a better value. It's about half the price, and it has lower power consumption.
In terms of real world performance, there isn't much difference between the two, but the DIR-825 would be a better choice in a more demanding context, such as a small internet cafe, or a large household, and it has room in terms of memory and processing power for future releases of DD-WRT that might require more of your hardware.
But they are both great home routers in my opinion. _________________ Netgear XR500

Thanks Drek, your experience was very useful.
but i still don't understand why TL-WR1043ND has bigger firmware than DIR-825B ?
In the other hand in my country both of this router have the same price ! ( That's funny I know )

only have TP-Link TL-WR1043ND so I can't compare.
But i'm pleased with my ddwrt 1043ND.
Everything works now (openvpn, wifi stable and fast,...)
Hi ,
do you have experience with both of mention router ?
it seems most of users have some sort of un stability problem with TL-WR1043ND in this forum.
No I don't have experience with the DIR... router.
In past firmware for 1043ND was buggy. Wifi didn't work at full 300Mbs speed.
Software evolved, but instead of fixing problems, existing features which worked great were broken. (like VPN, Dyndns, ...)
Also the wifi link (ssid) sometimes dissappeared so wifi client got disconnected. A hardware reboot was required then every time.
It also took some tweaking of all settings.
But i'm very happy with it. That router costed me 40 to 50 euro here in Europe.
low Power use is great. It has gigabit ports. 3 great wifi range antenna's,....
I long thought of switching to another distro like OpenDRT, but these are less user friendly....
Only "problem" left i have is that when reconnecting the wan to internet (bridge adsl modem) the wifi link also restarts, so when reconnecting to internet the wifi link to my laptop also dissapears for a while.
I checked both of this firmware file size and realized the TL-WR1043ND has a bigger firmware than DIR-825B2, why ?
Looks indeed that 825B has slightly smaller firmware (and 825C much larger) compared to 1043. However I wouldn't worry much about slightly different firmware sizes, after all these are different devices with different processors and all. _________________ D-Link DIR-825 B1 - DD-WRT v3.0-r35681 std (04/06/18) modded with 2 USB ports

Ya, but how much of that is firmware related? We all know that D-Link's and TP-Link's firmware sucks. That's why we're here. Unless all the routers in those charts that can are running DD-WRT, those comparisons aren't much use to us.
It's clear that the DIR-825's hardware is more powerful, the question isn't which is more powerful, or has more headroom, the question is, which is enough. If the TP-Link does what you need it to do, then it is the better deal because it takes less power, but if you are in a situation where you have more clients, or you are going to be placing more demands on your hardware, or future compatibility is an issue, then I'd say the D-Link would be the better option.
Having said that, those results are interesting, there are obviously some very nice routers available out there now, but again, how much of that is firmware, and how much of that is hardware, and how much of a premium are you paying for it, not just in initial cost, but in power consumption? My router is on 24/7. Power usage is a big deal.
One annoyance that I've had with my DIR-825 though has to do with my usb printer. I have a usb printer hooked up to it, and every time I want to print, I have to reboot the router. So that might be a consideration if you intend on hooking up a usb printer to it. I'm sure it's something that can be fixed with the firmware, but who knows when and if it will be, and I don't know if it is a general problem with DD-WRT firmware, or whether it is specific to the DIR-825. _________________ Netgear XR500
