To me so far it looks identical to the E900, however performance testing to be determined... I am going to get GPIO pulls and do some testing, this should be easy to get dd-wrt ported.. I got that router last night around midnight lol, and then had to go home and put it under the knife!.... Today the fun begins..

looks like an E900 but i would think its a 1x1 unit if its only a N150, the E900 does infact get N300.

Correct, this is a 1x1 and the antenna is in the upper left side of the router... same specs 300mhz cpu, 32mb ram so not bad for 30$

Which is rather strange due to this comparison chart, it specs it out to be a 1 antenna 2x2 unit, and pretty much matches the E900 specs aside from the 1 antenna arrangement. The 'strange' part to me is that in the specs comparison, they still rate it @ N300.

I don't have one of these units to test, but nonetheless, nice work Fractal and thanks for continuing to look into newer units getting ported!

I decided to try this one out, and have found (while it maybe specific to me...) that my internet speeds are a fraction of what they could be. I bypassed the router and got much faster speed tests (to the magnitude of 100x the speed).

Is there a good way to revert to the Linksys firmware?

Again, this could be specific to my setup or ignorance of best settings on dd-wrt.

*****
edit: I've found that when linked directly to my router the speed is very fast, but when connected over the wireless they are .01x the speed.

Thanks Fractal for supporting this router. I'm using one of these to build a outdoor solar powered long range repeater with a nice 16dbi yagi.

Hi,

I have a E800 bought from Walmart at the same price you mentioned. My problem is that the signal is not strong enough. I'm less then 4 feet from the router and the signal gets weak. Right now I'm in my bedroom, aprox 10ft, and I only have one sognal line.

I have an old belkin g that has strongest signal than this new one (full strength in my bedroom same 10ft from the router). I bought the e800 because the belkin started to "tilt" when I download files or do any big data transfer.

I'm very dissapointed first with myself, I blamed to me first (and then to the Cisco certifications I made a few years ago) because I think is something I'm missing. Now I'm not sure if this unit has a problem, or it is WAD (working as designed).

Is too late to change it for another one (I bought the unit more than 30 days ago) so I would really apreciate your comments about what may I do with this piece of router. Should I try to port it? Adding an external anthena sounds like a solution for my problem if it is really a signal related issue.

Sorry for the extention and sorry if this is not the proper thread to talk about this. I posted here because no other serious forums were found. The experience with Linksys support is something I dont want to mention... useless...

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Claudio

@DasNeueReich

I noticed when I opened up my router for the antenna mod, that the factory had very poor solder joints on the sheet metal antenna inside of the router itself.

Check the antenna feed line solder joints with a multimeter. Re solder if needed. My external yagi antenna is providing about 1/2 mile connection to another yagi.

The stock antenna on the router works fine, you probably have a defective unit.

Good luck,

Mrengles

Downloaded and upgraded a new e800 last night... it works like a charm!

We need to add it to the list of 'Supported Devices'.
I almost passed this unit by while shopping for a replacement for a dead e1200 because it wasn't on the supported list (no 1200's in stock). The e800 in it's stock form was pretty lousy with 'n' cards, now it flies.

Thanks for porting/compiling it over!

Dave
