Hi guys,

I just got my Sam Knows Whitebox which is a TP-Link TL-WDR3600. I tried everything to find a way to login to the device but unfortunately I found nothing. I would like to flash this router with DDWRT and I would be really thankful if someone could please help me. Thanks in advance.

The procedure is similar to http://blog.nyr.be/hacking-the-whitebox/ just make sure you get the right firmware build for this router from the dd-wrt hardware database.

Yeah it's pretty easy to change root password or flash firmware.

Quote:
Failsafe mode

Power up your router. When the 'SYS' light starts to blink you have about 1 seconds to press the WPS/Reset button on the back-left of the router and hold it until the blinking gets faster.

For what you can do in failsafe, go to the OpenWrt Failsafe Mode page.

I'm a little late to the game... any way I went ahead and flashed tl-wdr3600-webflash.bin but now it sems kind of bricked. Just the powerled is blue and I get no contact what so ever.

When I flashed it said;
unlocking firmware...
writing to firmware...
rebooting...

And now it is pretty much dead.

Any suggestion on what to do?

I'm in the same situation. I did read this thread before I tried, and since your attempt with "tl-wdr3600-webflash.bin" failed, I went for "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" instead. I know it wasn't any factory firmware on it, but I still tried.

Now I have to set up some JTAG solution in order to reflash it. Hopefully it's easy enough.
If that doesn't work, I'll attempt to replace the flash chip itself.

It looks like one need a special firmware for these SamKnows routers.

The one I got is a WDR3600 revision 1.4, with green leds.

Any suggestions on what one can do would be nice, and hopefully others won't do the same mistake as we did.
