In the interests of collecting data for compatibility, here is my visual inspection of the WAG302 vs. the WG302. Since DD-WRT runs on the WG302, it seems that the WAG302 wouldnt be too difficult.
Basically, the hardware looks the same except for the mini PCI wireless card which is a different brand/model.
OK. Sounds like they must be rare, unfriendly, or unreliable.
Since these wireless boards are just add-ins on a mini-pci socket, could we just swap them out for models that are supported? e.g. standard Intel or Atheros or Tonze wireless?
For example, if i pulled the two plotechs and replaced them with one Atheros I guess I could "downgrade" the WAG302 to a WG302. But what if I can't get my hands on the exact model of Atheros found in the WG302, could I use another version that DD-WRT supports? Does the "DD-WRT WG302 edition" incl. support for other wireless chipsets?
With that in mind, if your shop sold an "n" mini-pci, and DD-WRT had compatibility with that, hundreds, nay, thousands of DD-WRT users (or potential users) could use DD-WRT and the shop as an "n" upgrade path.
In my case I would upgrade 2x WG302's that are bridging two buildings. "n" bridges are typically EUR 80-300 each... so needing two, means there is plenty of budget to upgrade existing hardware rather than buying new.
The Atheros is the same model as in the WG302. The Intel is a pull from a laptop. The Tonze I don't know... that's your shop. The Longshine is one of the few "n" miniPCI cards... it would be FANTASTIC if we could use these in the WG302 or WAG302 as upgrades assuming compatibility with DD-WRT. Thanks for any info.
