Consumer routers powerful enough?

Are any of the consumer-grade routers powerful enough in terms of CPU performance to act as the end point of an SSH tunnel or a VPN? It would only be one or two users and only need 1Mbit of throughput.

As far as I know they all have slow CPUs which could never perform the encryption fast enough for a meaningful connection (by today's standards).

I believe the RT-AC68U could handle what you need. I have a RT-N66U doing something similar to what you need, sometimes it does act up and get slow but usually it handles it rather well. You just have to experiment I'm afraid.
