just throw it away and buy another cheap belkin or tplink router.

Multiple Vulnerabilities in Linksys WRT160Nv2 reported and linksys still won't release new firmware! Even they don't want to fix it because it is a piece of crap and not worth the extensive time needed to work around the hardware shortcomings.

I know this has been beaten into the ground already, but is dd-wrt still possible with this?

I seen that the Airlink101 ar670w has support, and it's based on the same processor and wireless chipset that the WRT160Nv2 has.

If I tried the Airlink101 firmware, would it be a direct flash or would I have to flash it a specific way?

Is there any news on this or is a lost cause?

It looks like OpenWrt has support for it.

Thanks for the links Simba7, i tried the leitec fork on my old WRT160Nv2.
Compiling works flawless after installing all required packages (i used ubuntu 64bit 14.04), but takes ages if you forget the -j switch for "make" to use multithreading, like me. Wink
Flashing the firmware file works fine from the default Linksys web interface, after rebooting there's NO GUI anymore, you have to access the router via telnet for basic config and then via ssh for complete configuration.
I successfully tested WiFi as well, IPv6 and VPN should work according to the developer. GUI isn't and most likely won't ever be possible as there're only 2-3MB RAM free of total 16 MB RAM.

Thanks to the devs for this fork, that ugly thing called WRT160Nv2 is useful again Cool

Everything you do with this file happens at your own risk, i can't guarantee for anything nor can i give support.

I've compiled this for my own WRT160N v2 just two days ago (on a Linux Mint 17.2 with the recommended settings from the Leitec wiki, nothing changed or added) but make sure you understand the limitations before you flash: no shiny browser interface at all, everything has to be done via SSH.

Flash in original Linksys webinterface, after reboot connect via telnet to 192.168.1.1 and set your new password with "passwd". For further configuration check the Leitec and OpenWrt wiki.

This router will never see DD-WRT support:
