I have a Linksys WRT54G router with DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/28/0Cool micro installed. I successfully have 2 running vlans with internet off the one router. However I can not talk to devices across the vlans.

vlan0 = 192.168.1.1

vlan2 = 172.20.1.1

Both have their respective gateways, If I ping 192.168.1.2 from the 172 side it is successfull, however, if I ping 172.20.1.2 from the 192 side it fails.

I do have an iptable rule in my firewall CLI of iptables -I FORWARD -j ACCEPT

OK, I'm just curious. Why would you set up separate VLANs and want them to see and talk to each other?

Can you post all your Firewall commands? I'd like to see what you've got. Probably something simple to fix like an "INPUT" that should be a "FORWARD" or vice versa.
