I think my family is about to kick me out the house Smile This rev (23720) of the router drops connections an reboots almost daily. Unfortunately, at the worst times. It shows itself most during heavy file transfers from our home nas to other hosts on the network.

I upgraded from 23320 which also experienced drop offs. I also have the optimal settings as described in the wiki for this chipset. I know there is a new rev available, but I'm nervous to go to it given the feedback I've read in the upgrade thread.

Admittedly, when I upgraded, I did not do a 30/30/30 reset. I have too many settings to manually key in that it just wasn't worth it at the time. However, if you strongly, strongly feel this will solve my disconnects, I'll try it.

What rev do you think is best for this router?

Many thanks!
R

By his signature I'm guessing a wndrmac2 converted to wndr3800.
I seem to remember people have good experience with 18777 but tatsuya would know better.

It started as a WNDR-MAC N600 (Wndrmacv2) then I went to the firmware at rev 22118. Then 23320, then 23720.

CPU Model: Qualcomm Atheros AR7161 rev 2 680 MHz
Ram: 128Mib
Flash: 16Mib

my v1 has gone through all those with no wifi dropping issues, you havent tried 23838 yet so thats something you should do & then a triple 30 reset or telnet "erase nvram", "reboot" if the upgrade alone has no effect. if you do reset, do not restore from a backup either & test the wifi before you spend all that time reinputting your settings.

also near the time when you think its about to drop/reboot again see if you can get a dmesg output

Thank you for your suggestions.

I have to say after reading the thread about 23838, I'm not encouraged it's going to improve my situation. Many folks are reporting a worse experience with 23838 instead of better.

Based on your experience, do you feel that doing the 30/30/30 in my current rev will make a positive difference? If not, is there a previous rev you'd recommend that is better than my current one?

I went back to 23320. That combination plus following the wiki settings has allowed my router to be up for many days without interruption.

Interesting. I've become discouraged by new-build threads around here, since by the time I finish reading them there's invariably some deal-breaker or other mentioned, but recommendations of builds actually made in the year that we're living now is encouraging. I'll have to start looking at them again and trying some builds.
