How to migrate your ubiquiti unifi from DD-WRT to openwrt by using Jtag (serial console) and windows.

This procedure is recommended only if you cannot use SSH or telnet to get into the router.

Pre-requisites:
You need to build a jtag cable, I used the TTL-332R-3V3-AJ serial USB adapter, and a stereo jack to female pin to connect to the AP.
tYou need The program Putty for the terminal client in windows.
If you do not know how to use the jtag and terminal refer to the following tutorial.

http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/10341/Recover-Your-WGR614L-Using-a-Serial-Console-Windows/

You need also a Tftp server installed locally in windows.

Connect the router and the pc with an Ethernet cable, set in the computer an ip address in the subnet 192.168.1.XX

In our case we selected 192.168.1.11 and the router get an automatic address in 192.168.1.20.

Step 1.- Once you have build and connected the serial cable to the router and you are able to see the booting process. In putty. Press “Ctrl C” into the terminal to stop the booting process in the router. If you miss this step just reset and try again. Now you must be able to see the prompt in the terminal, something like this:

ar7240>

Step 2.- Turn on the tftp server, in the windows machine , pointing to the openwrt firmware and uploading to the clients.

Server: 192.168.1.20
Password: (in my case empty)
File: (choose your file)

Type “urescue” in the putty terminal you will see something like this:
ar7240> urescue
urescue
Setting default IP 192.168.1.20
Starting TFTP server...
Using eth0 (192.168.1.20), address: 0x81000000
Waiting for connection: /

Press enter in the tftp screen and the image will be uploaded automatically.

Step 3.- Wait until the system is installed ( 2 minute aprox )and then power off and turn on again

You must be able to see in the terminal screen the booting process, press enter when the booting stop and now you will be able to see the OPENWRT welcome screen.

something like this:
