After a lot of reading as well as inputs from other users here, I flashed my Buffalo WHR-300HP2 from stock firmware v1.5 to r23919 using the file "firmware-us.bin" from this link ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2014/04-18-2014-r23919/buffalo_whr_300hp2/

Below is the procedure I did

1. With all the power & internet cables still on the router, I did a 30/30/30 hard reset

2. Set static IP to 192.168.11.10 and Subnet 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.11.1

3. Update to dd-wrt r23919 using Buffalo Air Station web GUI using LAN connection from my laptop (Windows 8.1 64-bit, Google Chrome)

4. After finished, changed IP back to automatic then logged in to dd-wrt web GUI @192.168.1.1, then went to Administration > Factory Defaults > Restore to factory defaults. Waited for another 5 mins or so

5. Did another 30/30/30 hard reset

However, I couldn't connect to the internet at all via both LAN and wireless.

I notice that before flashing to dd-wrt, all the LEDs in the front panel were GREEN

After flashing, the bottom LED went from RED to OFF few seconds after turning on. On the manual, it said that if it's Green: Mode switch is in the “Router” position; Amber: Mode switch is in the “Auto” position & Off: Mode switch is in the “Bridge” position (fyi I leave the router at Router mode all the time)

Did I do something wrong? Should I change/adjust any setting for the router? Any suggestion would be appreciated!

Thanks!

well today I tried to update firmware 2 times to r24461 unsuccessfully. The message said that it upgraded the firmware ok but after power cycle I still saw the version being r23919

I decided to use the dd-wrt firmware for a slightly different router Buffalo WHR-300HP2D and boom it did the trick!

Everything works fine now Smile

Because I saw most of people having the same router as mine successfully flash to that version. So I thought I should try that one first before going to any newer version

Do you have any recommendation? Thanks!

I ve found the firmware here, succeed to update it, even to the latest dd wrt build after installing this firmware.
However Wifi client mode works only within 2m of the AP. After 2m no IP assigned,
It was ok for one week from ca 5m. with other devices I can connect the same AP smoothly, even from 10m.
Any ideas what should I do to improve connectivity?

Mine is working great despite 5+ devices connected & run all the time

First I use inSSIDer 3.1.2.1 to find the least used channel in my area
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/inssider.html

This is my current setup if it would help
* Wireless -> Basic settings
AP/N-only/Mixed/Channel 1/Channel Width: 20 MHz (don't use 40 MHz, not stable)
* Wireless -> Security
WPA2-PSK/AES
* Advanced Settings

* Enable NAT/QoS (Quality of Service) for certain devices if needed

This ref. is for Atheros chipset but has many useful info
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Atheros/ath_wireless_settings#Advanced_Settings

Good luck!

I have the same router, and flashed it to 24461, and now for the life of me can't get it off of that and install any other firmware?

What did you do to install a different version?

thanks.

From my notes:

redhawk

Code:
To update firmware....

1 - make a configuration backup of the nvram.

2 - flash the OEM build whr300hp2d-v24sp2-22750b.bin file.

3 - hard reset 30/30/30. (optional)

4 - connect to the router using encryption credentials on the router sticker.

NOTES:
You might have to set the Static IP if the setup isn't a DHCP server and a 30/30/30 was wasn't done.
Router might be reset to 192.168.11.1 (if 30/30/30 was done)...otherwise its what you had it set to.
use admin/password for the login screen.

5 - After you log in then upgrade to the firmware-us.bin build you want...then put back the backup nvram.

Firmware update might possibly be fixed after the 25697 build. 12/29/14

We need more info than this...

what build do you have on the unit?
What have you tried?
Can you get into the Web GUI?
Are you trying to do this over wireless...or are you hardwired into a LAN port?

You might try flashing the us version over your japan version first....try the 26138 build of firmware-us.bin file.

Make sure you do a 30/30/30 reset on it before trying to flash back to whr300hp2d-v24sp2-22750b.

If this doesn't work...I'm not sure how to fix it. I've always been able to flash the whr300hp2d-v24sp2-22750b file from any of the dd-wrt firmwares. Actually...I haven't been able to update from a firmware-us.bin file to another build of firmware-us.bin file....I have to always go back to whr300hp2d-v24sp2-22750b first...then update to a new version of firmware-us.bin

There is a very noticeable change in operation going from build 24461 to build 25179 for this router. Subsequent builds have the exact same odd behavior.

Build 24461:

I can flash the router with this build and it takes only a couple minutes for the firmware to take effect. No noticeable issues with this build.

Build 25179 and up:

Flashing this build and subsequently released builds for the 300hp2 takes about 8 minutes of constant rebooting until the web interface is accessible. In addition to this the WAN/Internet port on the router does not function at all. I first noticed that when trying to get a dhcp lease from my internet provider. Making the router into an AP and bridging the wan port to lan does nothing -- the WAN/Internet port simply does not function.

I want to trace down when this problem first occurred, but unfortunately the dd-wrt build process is giving me a headache. I have a working build environment, but I can't find the reference .config file(s) used in building for the 300hp2 image made available on the ftp server. I see there is a CONFIG_WHR300HP2 variable. I'm thinking I can copy the .config_micro to .config and set this variable, but then I'm lost on what to use for environment. I tried the below but I get other errors:

Code:

#
# Environment
#
ARCHITECTURE=ralink-openwrt
PLATFORM=mipsel
LINUXDIR=$(SRCBASE)/linux/universal/linux-3.15
LIBDIR=$(TOOLCHAIN)/lib
USRLIBDIR=$(TOOLCHAIN)/usr/lib
