All,

Just flashed my brand new tl-wr841n (not nd) v9 with factory-to-ddwrt.bin and that took just fine, but when I tried to upgrade to tl-wr841nd-webflash.bin it wouldn't take. I get an "Upgrade Failed" after I hit the 290s mark. I used the 06-23-2014-r24461 build. Any ideas on why this didn't work, and on how to get it working?

Was going to try and at least get the stripped factory firmware, per MazdagL's instructions, but can't seem to obtain the firmware from the link he posted.

At the moment I'm stuck with a tl-wr841n with factory-to-ddwrt on it -- help!

Just wanted to give an update on this.

I was able to successfully flash the "06-23-2014-r24461" build onto my tl-wr841n. It appears that something on my machine was blocking the upgrade even though I had disabled my AV and Windows firewall.

What I did to get the upgrade to go through was to boot up my old Win XP machine, turn off my AV and firewall, and run the upgrade using IE9. I am not sure whether it was a browser issue, or an issue with newer versions of Windows, but this worked flawlessly for me.

I have been running "06-23-2014-r24461" for a few weeks now and it seems to be fairly stable. I am only running at 144 Mbps currently because I am using dynamic channel width (need to do some tweaking) but I have not experienced any downtime.

Which old version you use now ?
Did you find any bugs ? Is it stable ?

The r24160 version. It is quite stable, haven't experienced any problems or crashes yet, the only feature that I would like to see working now and the one I currently need is the TX power setting. The signal cannot reach another device about 20-30 meters away behind four walls because of similar frequency interference caused by neighboring access points. My selected channel is 9, and the other access points (which are out of my control) are mostly on channels 6 and 11.

Edit: just updated to r24461. Waiting for the next version to arrive.

Is r24461 stable? Any problem with DDNS?

It works quite well, haven't experienced any crashes yet. I don't use DDNS, though.

The stock firmware seems pretty stable, and we can't increase the output power yet so - what advantages are you finding with DD-wrt firmware?

Right now the QoS setting comes in handy as well as monitoring signal strength or network usage and the overall potential of this firmware amazes me.

Does the latest build r24461 support OpenVPN or PPTP? I'd like to use it to run a VPN, but so far it doesn't seem to be working.

Installed factory to dd-wrt on tp-link TL-WR841N v9. Version DD-WRT v24-sp2 (06/23/14) std. Everything seems to work except now I cannot reach my IP camera and my windows server from any machine in my network. I can only reach the IP camera using WAN IP address with port forwarding. What settings do I have to change to enable access to local machines from/to local machines ? This worked automatically with OEM router software.

Just a head's up - there's now a new version of DD-WRT for v9 of this router up: 9-06-2014 r24988.

Anyone want to try it & let us know if it bricks your router?? Very Happy

EDIT: This build is listed elsewhere as unsafe. No idea why it's posted then...but there we have it

Why do you want someone else to try

So if it's problematic, it doesn't screw up *my* router!

I posted so that people could know the first new DD WRT version for this router (in 3 months!), is up.

I included a joke/warning.

To be fair though, I'm probably not going to flash the version that came out today myself, until there's feedback from those more adventurous. As 1.) I've never flashed a router before, 2.) Up until this version at least, I didn't see any advantage to DD WRT over stock for my scenario.

If that last paragraph offends you - why?

you are not going to flash it because you dont want to take the risk
What offends, as you post is that you want others to do something clear they dont have to do.
Read the title of new build
New Build - 09/06/2014 - r24988 - AVOID
