im curious community...

in the dd-wrt client bridge instructions it says to disable everything in "Block WAN requests" except filter multicast. i decided to go against its instructions and enable spi firewall and disable filter multicast.

just a few moments after disabling it, my phone was finally able to connect to my minidlna server without any problems.

so tell me, why enable filter multicast and disable spi firewall?

That is a remnant of very old instructions that were determined by Redhawk, who is very knowledgeable about such things, to be the most effective. It might have been necessary for certain builds or setups to work optimally in the past.

The SPI firewall should not be necessary in a downstream router that is not a gateway.

However, I often simply skip those filters, and have never had a problem.

at this point, im just thinking that maybe it would be necessary to keep spi firewall enabled, but with every option turned off.

its like all it needs to do is just sit there...or can be turned off with "filter multicast" disabled. ill try testing it out when i get home.

Multicast is a performance break especially over wireless bridges, unless you need multicast to reach your wireless clients you should turn it off, although previous builds didn't come with broadcoms multicast optimization.

well i played bf4 after making those changes last night and i did not notice any latency increases or spikes. would you be referring to speed drops? random disconnects? what kind of wireless performance drops would i be seeing?

and are you also saying that i would be better off turning on broadcoms multicast optimization in the wireless settings? does it have to be enabled on the main AP as well? or just the client bridge where dlna is being hosted?

its back again. tested it on my sisters phone and my desktop using a wireless network adapter. all show the same thing.

so i decided to hook my pc up to the router by wireless and setup windows mediaplayer to share my music. it saw my server, but once i disconnected wireles and connected lan (and waited 2 min) it shows the same thing as the dlna server.

can someone test dlna between a tomato AP and dd-wrt client bridge?

does filter multicast need to be unchecked in firewall for igmp snooping to function? i cant seem to tell any difference from testing

also i think that filter multicast title should be renamed to something more clear, like "block multicast" so having it checked will do that, aka filter it out, & unchecked will allow it

should be in setup -> networking -> bridging -> igmp snooping on/off

oh dear 'n' looks like its already off.

back to googling

EDIT: i wanted to mention that if i host any DLNA shares on my client bridge side, it will not pass through to the main AP.

this is very frusterating...

try client mode with a different subnet, setup a static route so both subnets can communicate both directions, or try wds, does it work then?

i did not try your suggestion yet, but cloneman found an old thread here so i checked it out.

it appears that a user named "brandonf360" found what the problem was.

Just an update for anyone else looking into this problem.

When creating a client bridge you are not getting a true transparent hardware bridge.
A program called relayd runs to create your virtual bridge. This part works fine for my DIR-825. The problem is relayd to my knowledge does not pass on IGMP multicast traffic. Another program is supposed to run on DD-wrt called igmprt which from what I can tell is just DD-wrt's version of IGMPproxy. This program allows multicast traffic to pass through your bridge.

This program is running on a default config when I do a 30/30/30 reset, how ever after configuring my wireless to be a client bridge, it gets turned off somehow, that is why SSDP/media sharing is not working over my bridge.

I tried manually adding my own config to jffs2 and running igmprt from a command line with:
igmprt -d /jffs2/etc/igmpproxy.conf
but the program fails saying that I must provide an upstream and a downstream interface, Maybe I didn't use the right interface names in the config I'm not sure, I believe i used ath0 for upstream and br0 for downstream.

So for anyone looking to fix media sharing, you must get igmprt process running after getting the bridge all setup and working. If anyone succeeds please post back with your igmpproxy.config, and likewise if I get it figured out I will post back.

i guess it really was the dd-wrt bridge the whole time.

after reading that, i turned on my e3000 router, set it up as a client bridge running dlna and tried connecting my android phone and laptop to the server. both connected within seconds. was able to play any song i liked.

gonna read the thread some more...brb

i am giving up. there are only three options i can hope for at this point.

1. kong fixes this problem in his firmware

2. brainslayer fixes this problem in his firmware

3. i attempt again later on today and then miraculously understand how to configure dd-wrt from head to toes through gui and command line interface without the use of any other guides from google.

i reset my client bridge back to defaults and then set it up as a repeater bridge. then i enabled minidlna and checked my wireless clients.

only one client was connecting, then the next, but it was too slow so i rebooted the main ap first then the client bridge and now all devices are finding my dlna server.

now i can rely less on sd cards Smile

and thanks to kong, i would never know what i would be doing next if i had not yet found the solution!
