I'm curious, as I just checked BrainSlayers FTP and still see this firmware as current, has there be any other fixes or versions of the Atheros hardware or is 24461 current?
It's been a while since I've visited and I was expecting to be behind on Atheros firmwares like usual lol.

There have been some massive problems with recent versions and they are taking a long time to come out with the next beta.

Damn, that's too bad. Here's to hoping they can get it all cleared up with as little stress as possible on them.
Thanks for the update by the way.

Openwrt isn't for everyone. My opinion is if you aren't a fairly advanced computer user, with some experience with the GNU Linux operating system, and the CLI (command line interface), you should stay well away from it.

You'd probably be better off to try an older beta version of DD-WRT. I've reverted to build 23598 and it is working well for me. I'm not having any issues with the 5.0ghz wifi with this version, and it is after the Heartbleed fix, so it should be secure.

Found a guide for a rollback to earlier versions. Worked on my TP-Link WR841N V8.4:

Code:
1    Enable telnet on your router. You can use the Web GUI interface to do so. Also, make sure you are connected to the router by a network cable and wireless LAN on your computer is disabled. From here on, the risk of bricking your router is all yours.
2    Open a terminal window and telnet into the router:
$ telnet 192.168.1.1 <enter>
root@myrouter:/tmp#
cd /tmp <enter>
3    Install the previous dd-wrt firmware version 24160
root@myrouter:/tmp# wget http://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2014/05-27-2014-r24160/tplink_tl-wdr4300v1/tl-wdr4300-webflash.bin <enter>

Wait patiently for the file to download. You will soon see message as below after it is done.
Connecting to download1.dd-wrt.com (82.165.149.94:80)
tl-wdr4300-webflash. 100% |*******************************| 7872k 0:00:00 ETA
4    Flash the router with the downloaded firmware image
Next, flash the router with the downloaded firmware image as follows:
root@myrouter:/tmp# write tl-wdr4300-webflash.bin linux <enter>
Wait patiently. Once done, exit with the following command:
root@myrouter:/tmp# exit <enter>
5    Remove the power plug of the router and reconnect.
Wait for it to restart. Now login to the router via Firefox or Internet Explorer at http://192.168.1.1
Visit Status -> Router and verify that the installed firmware version is 24160.

Sounds like that new release at least for now is dangerous for average users (bugs, brick.) I'd wait.
I've come back to dd-wrt after a few yaars and have 24461 running on my TP-Link TL-WR841ND v8 flawlessly for 20 days now of uptime. Fixed my problem with playstation now streaming from the stock firmware.
WIFI Client types: ipod touch, windows pc's, Nintendo console/handheld, PS4, LG TV, Roku, sony bluray, Microsoft surface tablets, windows phone, android phone. Probably missing a few. Very impressed on the first version I tried.
wired clients: dish network receivers (old school ones)
Running on a Motorola U-Verse dsl modem 12megabit speed running in as close to a bridge mode as it is capable.

I just may very well leave at this version permanently.

Based on what I've seen of the official thread for this new release, I'd stay well away from it, unless you are willing to take the chance that your router might become an expensive doorstop, or are an advanced enough user to be able to muddle through issues such as no UI or unbricking a bricked router. And from what I've seen some of the most annoying recent issues, such as 5ghz wifi service dropping, are still ongoing.

WAN port isn't working.

Known problem since r 23503, the devs needs serial output to solve it, but we lack serial cables and connections for this, if you can help them with serial log, it would be great for all of us.

Follow the link to the bug tracking logs attachments.
We need more information to the Devs.

4 Download putty (http://www.putty.org/)

5 On WinSCP:
5.1 Select New Site;
5.2 File protocol: SCP;
5.3 Hostname: 192.168.1.1 (or your router IP);
5.4 Username: root
5.5 Password: your admin pass
5.6 Drag downloaded firmware from Download folder and drop in /tmp
5.7 (Important, I think...) On Transfer Settings, select Binary
5.8 Transfer;

6 On putty;
6.1 Login on 192.168.1.1 (user root and pass);
6.2 Type:
cd /tmp (Enter)
mtd -r write xxxxx.bin linux (Enter) (Sure, replace xxxx with your firmware filename...)

7 It worked for me in a tp-link wr740n v4.22;

8 Use at your own risk. (I cannot confirm if it will work on your model, router, etc.)
