So I just bought the R8000 and much to my dismay it does not allow specific device access control. So I did some reading on DD-WRT in general as well as on the R8000 - i found this tutorial: http://www.myopenrouter.com/article/56761/How-to-Flash-DD-WRT-Open-Source-Firmware-to-NETGEAR-R8000-Nighthawk-X6/?highlight=r8000 .

I have 2 questions:

1) Is it accurate that DD-WRT will allow access control per device/ip/mac address

2) How does one revert back to router default firmware after upgrading to DD-WRT (I probably would never want to but would be nice to know).

I thought the stock firmware would have that, at least I remember the feature on the stock firmware of my R7000. Doesn't it have an allow or deny access list???

hi folks,

I recently bought the netgear router R8000 and decided to install the dd- wrt firmware . I have the following basic questions :

1) With the original Netgear firmware my laptop was connected to 300 mbps. With dd- wrt firmware on your notebook is connected to 144Mbps . It is the same distance and conditions. Why ??

2) I want to reserve the IP in DHCP so that the PC will always have the same address and port to make forwaring . However, in the menu I can not find where this operation is performed .

3) I have trouble getting the connected external drive is shared . It's too complicated and I can not access it from windows or from the smart tv . Any idea where to get documentation to explain ?
