Hi folks,

I've recently installed DD-WRT on a WNDR3700v2 connected to a modem via the WAN port.

I've been having some stability issues involving a dropped WAN IP after applying settings or rebooting, returning in around 10 minutes, sometimes not at all. It occasionally gets so that the only fix is to restore a backup of previous settings.

The firmware I downloaded from the site is supposed to be 21061 2013-04-23 whereas, once I install it to the router it shows as 23919 2014-04-18

Am I ending up with a less stable newer firmware on my router? and if so, how do I get hold of the correct one? Or is this a known issue that I'm going to have to deal with whatever firmware I use.

Essentially I'm just wondering what the most stable firmware I can be using right now?

cheers

On my 3700v2 i'm using this

Router Model Netgear WNDR3700 v2/WNDR37AV v2/WNDR3800/WNDR38AV
Firmware Version DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/18/14) std - build 23919

that seems to be the same you are using.

But i'm having no issues at all.

I had already looked at your links tatsuya46, but I wasn't sure if I was playing with fire using the very latest beta firmware.

Would you recommend the most up to date version?

yes. & those who have a wndr3700v1/v2/v4/wndr3800/wndr4300/dir-825 have easy tftp, hard to brick these units simply by "unstable" build

Ok so now i'm really confused. I downloaded the latest beta from the link in your sig (r25143_23_10_2014) and installed it, doing a 30/30/30 reset before and after the installation.

The weird thing is, once rebooted my router shows a firmware version of: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/18/14) std - build 23919

Has the wrong file being linked to? Or is it not installing properly? Is there any way of telling from the download? they all have the same name

Cheers

flash it again, the triple 30 reset wont be needed & make sure u use the webflash for the right version. i use firefox & does fine for everything but if it still doesnt upgrade then do it by tftp using the .img

Thanks Tatsuya, why is the x 30 method not necessary in this case?

cause u already did it, & triple 30 started with early broadcom days but with modern & atheros routers, restoring factory settings via gui or "erase nvram" "reboot" via telnet does the same thing & faster. some broadcom routers' cfe i think, gets damaged by triple 30 reset even

On my WNDR3700v2 I'm using build 24160, and I find it very stable. Note that I'm getting the WAN from Wi-Fi connection (not from wired).

Anyway I saw that just yesterday a new version has been released, and I wanted to upgrade...

I'm wondering if a "reset to defaults" is needed or not, of course I'd like to keep my settings instead of setting everything again from scratch...

Do I need to reset to defaults before and/or after upgrading?

Yes, sure.
I've used it with a "modem router" and also with a bridged modem, no problem at all..
