1. Basically "beta" is the software. the last stable build was.. what 2 years ago?

2. I have the AC1450 and today I saw it die. Basically, the LAN ports no longer work. I can't connect to the router wired anymore, but strangely the WAN port still works to get internet over WiFi which works fine.

3. I'm going to get the AC1750 if costco has it in stock and flash dd-wrt on it. hopefully it should work fine. I actually quite enjoyed the AC1450, great range. Very very bummed that it decided to stop sending wired bits. Apparently it's a common thing.

Well, i got my ac1450 working again by some voodoo. seriously, i don't know what pattern of resets and buttons i pressed to make it work again. anyway, i was trying to get some extra reach for wifi and i got the costco R6700 anyway to use as my primary router with the idea of having the ac1450 as a wired AP. Anyway, I flashed dd-wrt for R6700, reset/rebooted it, blah blah blah, it would NEVER get a WAN IP. the system i have is moto surfboard modem out to OOMA VOIP telephone out to router. this has worked perfectly with my AC1450. So i just plug in my R6700 and nothing. i try everything, hard reset, flash a different date, i even went back to netgear firmware but it couldn't pull an IP from the OOMA (which I have the OOMA only permitting 1 ip x.x.x.78 so that it can be the same each time. never had issues before. so it wouldn't work. and connecting direct to the cable modem r6700 still wouldn't get an ip). so no idea, other than it's a bad router?

when on dd-wrt, if i plugged in the WAN to the wan port of r6700, there would be no light for wan connectivity. on the stock netgear firmware, the light would be orange but still not really work. I'll try to switch out the unit and give it another shot. I'll try it without installing dd-wrt first this time just to make sure it does indeed work out of the box. such bummer, very unwow.

Thanks Mr. Pat for the install breakdown.

Is there info on how to return it to factory if I have problems?

Thanks

Is there any guide to the new wireless settings? I'm coming from an BGN WNDR3400 so I've never seen some of these options.

if you want to learn about settings you are not familiar with Mike, I suggest (it is what I do) you google that specific feature.
There are a lot of resources on the net & some may be worded in a manner that make the topic more understandable.

slider is right^^

Another good read is this:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Atheros/ath_wireless_settings

The link is obviously Atheros based but much of the boradcom nomenclature is identified. I though it translated over to broadcom relatively easily, the detail is based on basically the same underlying concepts/science.

Edit, Late Add:

webif = web interface

Default, go to
http://192.168.1.1/
after authenticating navigate to
"Administration" Tab, then "Firmware Update" Sub Tab

Question on the 30/30/30 reset. I have another router (Cisco) that I just flashed DDWRT on without in problems. The reset on that router truly took it back to default. But when I try this on my R6700, it does not. I have tried it 3 times and each time my normal password gets me back in. Should it go back to factory?

you have a BCM4707/4708/4709 ARM CPU. so new reset process...

telnet over to it then pass the following command from the CLI

"nvram erase && reboot"

(without the quotes)

when it comes up you should be back at the set password web gui.

you can also reset from the web GUI, but folks having issues (or wanting a *hard* reset) have had to pass those commands at the root prompt

Also this recent thread has some recent "chatter" on the various types of resets:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=279589
(fwiw, i'd stay away from using "mtd")

Good luck!

Is there a stabile version for this router? I've been using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (01/20/15) std (SVN revision 25974) since I bought it and it reboots multiple times a day. There also seems to be an issue where it looks like the router is connected to the internet, but all DNS lookups seem to fail. Anyone know if there's a better version to try?

In the "other downloads" section you will find the "betas" tab then 2015. Go to latest listing. Here is the link http://dd-wrt.com/site/support/other-downloads?path=betas%2F2015%2F06-05-2015-r27240%2F
That will give you a webflash.bin to update through the dd-wrt firmware update. The date of this build is 6/5/15.

in addition to the main repo...

Kong's PTB's are here:
http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/
(only most recent version is available)

link to his historical PTB's in my Siggy if you settle on an older release.

Hi,

I bought this R6700 from Costco and looking at this thread I am not able to get if dd-wrt firmware converts this router to R7000 (AC1900) or not? Can someone please confirm.

Also, is the firmware stable at this point or are there some issues/caveats that one has to be careful about?

Thanks,

I was hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get this expensive brick working again. any help is appreciated.
