This thread discusses whether or not USB port support should be added to dd-wrt. Personally I think USB is more important than for example MMC since its a standard feature of many routers.
I have decided that once USB is added I will donate 20 EUR to dd-wrt. Are you willing to donate towards this? PM me with an amount and I'll write it down here, maybe that could help persuade the developers :)
While we're waiting, heres my take at it. _________________ Asus RT-AC66U - DD-WRT build 23083

I'm in favour too and would gladly give up all those hotspots for some extra memory... _________________ Asus RT16N + OTRW
Kingston 4GB USB-disk 128 MB swap + 1.4GB ext3 on /opt + 2 GB ext3 on /mnt
Copperjet 1616 modem in ZipB-config
Asterisk, pixelserv & Pound running on router
Another Asus RT16N as WDS-bridge
Yeah chillispot and that isn't really nessecary in a "standard" binary, that should be a separate compile on its own I think. Standard is what home users install. Maybe we should start a little donation for USB support to get more attention.
I'll chuck 20 EUR in the pot for USB support. (already donated 10 EUR before) _________________ Asus RT-AC66U - DD-WRT build 23083
Those of us who own a router with 8MB of flash memory and 32MB of RAM (like the Asus 500gP) have wondered why we can't have a dd-wrt version that has everything - all features.
The answer has been that the s/w development package (or some part of it) limits the developers to 4MB of flash memory.
Well, these routers with USB - can a USB thumb-drive be used to store more software and thus have a dd-wrt version with all features - standard + voip + vpn
Of course, then one also has the question of how to get the s/w onto the USB thumb-drive.
That would be quite nice, except I think getting past the restrictions would be better. All the binaries for the WRT350N are over 4mb, the 1.03.2 binary is 7mb large, so it looks like its possible to me. _________________ Asus RT-AC66U - DD-WRT build 23083

USB support could enable FTP, HTTP and large storage Samba being run.
If we need more flash or RAM space, we can use the SD card mod to get extra room.
Are there any routers that have the kind of horsepower needed to run those sorts of applications? or is the common 200mhz enough to run those sort of things?
hmm looks good b nice 2 get some word of what moderators or developers etc thought of it. we should have a flash with more features enabled for the 8mb flash routers.
just a thought also, we could have premade images for memory sticks with all the larger components/programs etc already on it:). rtorrent on it would be nice
I would love to see a custom build for the WRT350N with USB support. I have not tried to install DD-WRT on it yet because I don't want to risk bricking my router. Using the 1.5.08 beta has made the unit much more stable but still would prefer DD-WRT.
