Hi,

I think I will buy a Netgear R7000, and I would like to use the DD-WRT firmware.

I have been reading the information provided in the wiki and I have a quick question.

The 'DD-WRT on R7000" page refer's to using the appropiate *.chk file in the initial directory.

/ddwrt-ren/K3-AC-Arm/Initial/dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk 17 Apr 2014.

But, I also found this file in a different directory:

/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/dd-wrt.K3_R7000.chk 9 Feb 2015.

Do you think it would be safe to use this newer file, or should I stick with the old one?

Thanks

To learn how to flash correctly an r7000 pls. read the Kongs "Readme" here: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt-ren/K3-AC-Arm/ and after learning go to "Initial" and download R7000 .chk build.
Either way you can first flash with that r7000 .chk or with a new .chk one, time ago i used this one and then flash any dd-wrt build.
To get familiar i would go with 23900 that is very satble and other day choose a 2015 one, be carefull, always choose .bin until you know what you want.
As always remember you flash at your own risk.

Thanks for the feedback.

I had already seen the 'Readme' file but it is very very short, not much detail ...

I think I will use the file referred to in the 'Readme' file, the older one.

Is any of the general info on this site relevant, like the 30/30/30 reset before and after firmware upgrade?

Pls read my sig las lane, Kong already said that 30-30-30 is not usefull any more, you have to go "Administration" > Firmare Upgrade > "Reset to Default Settings" before selecting your .chk file and the same when you upgrade to .bin file.
Wait up to when new upgrade finish, don't hurry up, no reset, do nothing, go have a beer and come back.
Then is all finished.

It is quite simple. Just download the latest firmware from the DD-WRT FTP site below and if it is the first time flashing the router just use the .chk file. It is EXACTLY the same as the .bin file only a different file extension and header check in the file that allows the default firmware to recognize it. It may warn you about using an "older" firmware than what you may have upgraded your default firmware to, but that is okay. Just click yes.
