Hi

I'm going crazy trying to configure various VPN services on my D-Link DIR-615 D4 router because all the guides state "go to the VPN tab and enable the Open VPN client" or similar.

This page, for example, shows a screenshot https://www.expressvpn.com/tutorials/dd_wrt_routers_openvpn, specifically

Trouble is that page on my router only lists the first two.

After much Googling and a chance visit to the "About" section of my DD-WRT router, I realised that there are various blends of the firmware for each router. And 'std', which is standard, does not include the OpenVPN section listed. I am using : DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/25/13) std

Apparantly, I need the 'VPN' version, not STD version?

However, I cannot find the VPN firmware for my router. This page at How To Geek suggests there is a firmware named ddwrt v24_vpn_generic.bin (http://www.howtogeek.com/64433/how-to-install-and-configure-openvpn-on-your-dd-wrt-router/). I have queried the DDWRT database and the only two listed are :

dlink-dir615d-factory-webflash.bin
dir615d-ddwrt-webflash.bin

Neither of which are the ones for OpenVPN I do not believe.

So can I just check - is that because it does not exist for my particular router? If so, I can rest in peace knowing I ma not just an idiot.

If it does exist, can anyone show me where the link is?

Thanks

The DIR-615 D is a Ralink-based router. It says this in the wiki http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/What_is_DD-WRT%3F
"Ralink based devices typically only have one version of the firmware available per model", which is, in fact, the standard (std) version, and doesn't include OpenVPN.

The router has only 4MB flash, it doesn't have enough space for OpenVPN. Quote from http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/OpenVPN
"OpenVPN is only available on units with at least 8mb flash."

Thanks for the info.

I'd read the stuff about the RAM etc already and that was another element of my confusion because my router has 32Mb of RAM.
