WAN to LAN and WAN to Wireless (N). In both scenarios my internet speed is capped at 10Mbps. ISP line is 20mbps and is coming fine when directly connected to modem.

Settings I am using
Step 1 ::
Firmware
- DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/18/14) std - build 23919
- DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/22/14) std - build 25697

Physical Interfact RA0 - Primary
Mode - AP
Network - N only
Transmission Mode - Mixed
Channel - Auto
Channel Width - 40 Mhz
Extension Channel - Upper
Security - WPA2 Personal - AES

Virtual Interfact RA1 - Guest Access
Security - WPA2 Personal - AES
Network Config - Unbridged

VLAN PORTS
vlan0ports=1 2 3 4 5*
vlan1ports=0 5

PORT VLANS
port5vlans=0 1 16
port3vlans=0
port1vlans=0
port4vlans=0
port2vlans=0
port0vlans=1

DMESG
No message mentioning DUPLEX mode

Step 2 ::
30/30/30 the router. Setup ISP. Access via lan cable. Speed is still capped at 10mbps.

Step 3 ::
Restored to ASUS firmware and it was able to touch 17mbps

First of all, the specs for the Ralink-based Asus RT-N13U B1 can be found here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Asus

For this particular router, which is similar to my DIR-615 D2, I would go with build 27119, which doesn't have the WebGUI timeout bug (present in builds 27147 & 27240, you can read more in the changelog in my signature). Build 27119 is here: ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/betas/2015/05-30-2015-r27119/asus-rtn13ub1/
Use file Asus-RTN13UB1-webflash.bin to go from ddwrt-to-ddwrt.

Then, set the following on the Physical Interface ra0:
NG-Mixed
Channel: 6
Extension channel: Lower
WPA2/AES is OK for security.

Try again with these settings and report back to the 27119 thread located in the Ralink section: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=283372

Thanks. Also for the chipset clarification.

I installed the firmware and set the Wireless settings as you specified. Still the internet speed is capped at 10mbps

What is strange is that WAN-LAN is capped at 12mbps.

Do you have an idea where should I set speed and duplex setting for eth ports

You don't have to. It should work out of the box.
I would reset to factory defaults and re-configure the router manually from scratch. But since I don't know your particular configuration, I can't really help at this stage. Maybe you can post some snapshots of the Setup, Wireless, Wireless Advanced, etc pages, for me to see. Maybe you have a misconfiguration somewhere...

OK. First of all, the only config issues I see are on the Wireless -> Advanced page. Change to:
CTS Protection Mode: Disable
TX Power: 71 mW
(Don't set more than this, the WiFi signal will be distorted and you also might burn the radio above 100 mW)

Second of all, the PPTP connection might be buggy. If you check the Changelog in my signature, you'll see that PPTP was modified several times in builds: 27086, 26839, 26587, 26490.

To make sure that PPTP is not the cause of the slowdown, I would try the following builds, one-by-one, to check if the PPTP changes modified anything (regression):
26947
26653
26490
26446

Please test each of these builds thoroughly with speedtest.net over WAN-to-LAN and WAN-to-WiFi. Good luck, and please report back with your findings !

Tested all.
26947 - 12.3 Mbps
26653 - 12.3 Mbps
26490 - 12.6 Mbps
26446 - 11.1 Mbps

If you've obtained these values in speedtest, with the following settings:
CTS Protection Mode: Disable
TX Power: 71 mW
then, honestly, I've run out of ideas. Something's not right there.

Can you test by connecting the router with Automatic DHCP connection to another router (not with PPTP) ?

Yes I have run using
CTS Protection Mode: Disable
TX Power: 71 mW

These values are WAN to LAN. WAN to Wireless are marginally less.

I don't know if the following information can be of any help.
-> I have tried file transfer on wireless at N mode. File transfer speeds were achieved at 2.8 MBps
-> My ISP demoed with DLINK DIR 600M. It was giving WAN-LAN 28Mbps and Wireless at 24Mbps. I will try to procure another router and try.

I restored ASUS FW. It is pulling 25Mbps from pptp.

I also have a range extender set with a different repeat SSID. I tried the extended SSID via a N300 usb dongle and it too is able to pull 20+.

Something is not right with the DDWRT config. Even though it is set to bare minimum
