Hey guys,

I ordered a TP-Link TL-WR710N v2.0 first and put the DD-Wrt on it. But due to the 4mb flash memory some features like USB support and OpenVPN is not working. Sad

So I bought a TP-Link TL-WR710N v2.1 with 8mb flash memory. Cool
Yesterday i tried to flash the firmware of TP-Link TL-WR710N V1.2(should be the same hardware) but it didn't worked.

There was an Error:

Error
Error code: 18005
Upgrade unsuccessfully because the version of the upgraded file was incorrect. Please check the file name.

How can i modify the Firmware to run on my v2.1 710n (it should work due to the same hardware)?
Or do we have to wait until its officially supported?

I need OpenVPN and USB Support. Laughing

Are you sure your WR710N v2.1 has 8MB flash ? Is it the last one from this table ? http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr710n

I'm asking this because DD-WRT supported devices says v2.x is supported, but it has 4MB flash. I guess DD-WRT supports only v2.0 with 4MB flash http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices

Edit: It seems v2.1 is the same hardware as v1.2, but different firmware header: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=290628#p290628
If you want I can modify the header of a DD-WRT WR710N v1.x build so that it flashes your v2.1 model.

Thank you for your fast reaction Rolling Eyes

Due to the fact that its definitely the same Hardware as V.1.2 I would try it out with a different header.

Any tutorial of how I can modify the header?

I'll build it for you. Just give me 15 minutes...
Edit: I need more time with this one, have to double check something. I will post the modded build here when it's done.

I've modified the header of the DD-WRT 27506 factory-to-ddwrt build intended for TL-WR710N v1, so that it will flash on a TL-WR710N v2.1 (8MB flash) running stock TP-Link firmware.
If the attached build works for you, it can be further updated with any newer-than-27506 webflash build for TL-WR710N v1.

(Note: the official v2 build is only good for TL-WR710N v2.0 with 4MB flash)

Disclaimer: I haven't tested the attached build myself, so I'm not responsible in any way if you brick your router.
Please only flash this build if you know how to unbrick it.

May I ask where from? I bought a TL-WR710N this week, hoping it might be the v2.1 8MB model, but it wasn't; it was the v2.0 4MB model. I haven't been able to find a vendor which specifically advertises the v2.1 model.

I just bought myself a v2.1 EU and flashed KrypteX build then flashed over it the latest webflash (28586) for the v1 and it works perfectly.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for the tip!

My local Sainsbury's had two left, labelled as v2.1. They're now mine.

Thanks a lot! I'm a total novice to DD-WRT but managed to get this working to give me IPv6 support, which the router doesn't seem to have natively, and now my (wirelessly connected) laptop can communicate with two IPv6 devices connected on the LAN ports. Only trick was that I had to disable WAN in order to free up eth0.

Thanks again!
