Try the router db version, I believe it's 25251. There is a Wi-Fi speed issue with the newer versions. Do a speed test and make sure you didn't lose +75% of your throughput.
Yes, to start. You may be able to get a newer version that works okay. I haven't tested anything between 25251 and 27371 (not working). See post for issues on E1700:
hmm, I thought so. Maybe it was 27378.. Doesn't really matter, all recent builds with have Wi-Fi throughput issues. On a 25mbps (down) connection, my speed tests were coming back with 2mbps.
I installed and have working the 25251 build, for just now,
I'm looking to use it in client mode with a local BTWifi-with-FON hotspot from across the road, which would then feed into my ASUS RT-AC68U router. which currently has a 3G stick in the back of it, but its proving relatively costly.
I have a BT account at my main home so can access FON for free, I have been using a HOOTOO tripmate travel router to repeat a good signal through my flat. and it has been working great but LAN only devices cant connect to the internet, due to no wired lan ports on this router. hence looking into DD-WRT for a solution with the e1700 router.
plan is to use the E1700 in client mode, and then connect the E1700 LAN port into the Asus RT-AC68U WAN port.
I managed to get the E1700 connected in client mode to the fon hotspot but think I have a few static route config and DNS issues to resolve the BT wifi login page, also I would like to if possible use scripting on the E1700 to automate the BT authentication,
more ideally would be to have the router connect and authenticate via the BTWifi-X access point with the 802.1x but I think that is above my capabilities with WRT for the time being.
You can always add a WiFi PCI card to a desktop without WiFi OR you can get one of these, they work great. Its completely seamless and should work with any device/os/pc/xbox, doesn't matter, no drivers needed.

I have downgraded my router form 1.0.0.1 to the firmware FW_E1700_v1.0.00.081_20131220 found after little search on internet then Installed the factory-to-DD-WRT successfully.
I think Linksys have imposed some restriction following firmware version 1.0.0.1 and above.

From my reading, looks as if just import this bin to replace my factory version (running 1.0.02, build 2, Jun 18, 2015) and don't have to do the 30-30-30 - Right?

what should i do?
Alright guys. Captain is here!
I had the same issue and after 2 days of trying now I have a solution for you.
1). Download old Linksys e1700 firmware v1.0.0.0.081 (FW_E1700_v1.0.00.081_20131220.bin). Here is a link: http://www.ctfile.com/file/71051625
2). Downgrade the firmware of your router to 1.0.0.0
3). Upgrade the firmware of your router with factory-to-ddwrt.bin from DD-WRT Router Database.
4). Congrats! You have installed DD-WRT.
Is there anywhere else to download this firmware file? I've tried 8 times from that chinese site and it never completes the download. Have searched in vain all over the internet for another download site. Does anyone have a copy of it they could share?

thanks, this does help re-install dd-wrt on my e1700.
i had flashed back the FW_E1700_v1.0.01.008_20141028.bin from dd-wrt, then i can't get back to dd-wrt, it always popup saying that "incorrect firmware file" at around 30%.
so, after downgrade the firmware back to FW_E1700_v1.0.00.081_20131220.bin, then only i can successfully install dd-wrt, again. thanks technik.
My problem was the same, i also can't install dd-wrt on my Linksys E1700, but my firmware was v1.0.02.
After downgrading i could flash with dd-wrt firmware.
Here is a link for the FW_E1700_v1.0.00.081_20131220.bin outside chinese site:
oops, not sure if i misleading...
i meant i upgraded from an already install dd-wrt e1700...
hmmm... i reverted it from dd-wrt back to linksys but updated firmware (v1.0.01).
p/s once install dd-wrt, in order to revert back to linksys original firmware instead of dd-wrt, just press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds, then flash the linksys firmware at the "emergency firmware upgrade" page.
I have been trying to revert back to the Linksys original firmware from DD-WRT v24-sp2(11/03/14), but in my case, the reset button does not appear to work since installing DD-WRT. If anyone knows another way to revert back, could you please let me know? I need to return my E1700 and so it needs to be to original spec. Cheers.
